The Shelter Caseworker supports homeless individuals in Livingston County by completing an intake for clients and provide support services to clients while in the warming center. Connecting them with community resources, and promoting long-term stability is a key component to this position. The Caseworker will likely encounter clients that have experiences with long term homelessness, mental health and substance abuse concerns along with other barriers that impact their ability to maintain suitable/safe housing. The caseworker will receive clients being referred from DSS. The Caseworker will welcome the client, acclimate them to the facility and ensure the safety and wellbeing of clients is maintained.

Requirements

High School Diploma or GED required
Possession of a valid NYS Driver’s license and a driver's record considered acceptable by agency and insurance carrier
At least 2 years of experience in social services, case management, or a related field is preferred.
Empathy, effective communication skills, problem solving skills, crisis de-escalation, multi-tasking, attention to detail, and solution-based results.
Adheres to all applicable federal and state laws and regulations including, but not limited to, those governing confidentiality, privacy, program, billing, and documentation standards.

Responsibilities

Provides coverage to the warming center as scheduled or needed between the hours of 4 pm and 8 am.
Responsible for regular monitoring of all areas of facility regarding the appearance and safety of all clients/staff.
Responsible for inventory/maintenance needs to be provided to DSS.
Completion of incident reports as applicable per agency procedures.
Ensure signing in of clients upon entering.
Assist clients with providing community resources and problem solving to situations.
Develop an approach that will work with each client to create an environment that is calm and cohesive.
