About The Position

This role involves fabricating, assembling, altering, repairing, and installing sheet metal articles and equipment. The worker will cut metal using various shears, shape metal with brakes and forming machines, and prepare metal for assembly by punching or drilling holes. Responsibilities include assembling sheet metal parts, ensuring proper fit and finish through bolting, riveting, filing, or grinding, and making layouts according to blueprints. The position also requires welding various metals, reading and interpreting prints and sketches, and ensuring accurate and efficient repairs and adjustments to equipment. The role operates under the direction of line management, requiring the maintenance of accurate records and adherence to safety, fire, and security regulations. The worker must be capable of working independently or collaboratively, ensuring the safe operation and proper care of materials, tools, and equipment. A strong understanding of applicable Federal, State, Department of Energy, Corporate, and Plant rules, regulations, Labor Agreements, and operating policies is necessary. Additionally, the role requires attending and completing training classes, participating in worker involvement initiatives to identify hazards and controls, and understanding the right to stop work when safety is jeopardized. Attending safety meetings and training, and offering suggestions for work environment improvements are also key aspects of the position.

Must meet initial employment requirements.
Must be able to read, write, and comprehend applicable written and/or oral instructions.
Must be physically fit to perform the above job functions as determined by Medical Evaluation.
Must have successfully completed a four (4) year Pantex approved Apprenticeship which provides experience directly related to the work currently performed by the Sheet Metal Shop, and/or possess a journeyman sheet metal worker certification or five (5) years of relevant experience.
Must have a valid State Motor Vehicle Operator's License.
May be required to pass and maintain certification in the Welding Test similar to American Society of Mechanical Engineers (ASME) Plate Test and maintain Certification.
All qualifications, work history, training, and education are to be verified by direct contact with former employers and/or documented proof.
Ability to perform the functions and responsibilities involved will be determined by a comprehensive interview and background evaluation.
Requires a Q clearance; however all qualified candidates will be considered regardless of their current clearance status.
The ability to obtain and maintain a Department of Energy Q clearance is required.
Requires Human Reliability Program (HRP) certification.
U.S. citizenship is a requirement for security clearance applicants.
Candidates accepting a job offer will be required to pass a pre-placement physical, drug screening and background investigation.

If the successful candidate is not currently certified in the HRP, the certification process will be initiated upon assumption of the position.
If the successful candidate is currently certified in the HRP, a review for HRP certification in the appropriate category will be performed by the hiring manager and the HRP Management Official, and the certification process in the appropriate category will be initiated upon assumption of the position.

Responsibilities

Fabricates, assembles, alters, repairs, and installs sheet metal articles and equipment, using sheet metal of 10 gauge or below.
Cuts metal with hand shears, rotary shears, and/or square shears.
Shapes metal with brake and forming machine.
Punches or drills holes for rivets, bolts, and screws with center punch, hammer, and/or hand drill.
Assembles sheet metal parts, brackets, and hangers.
Bolts, rivets, fits, or files seams, joints, or rough surfaces with grinding wheel or file.
Makes layouts on sheet metal according to blueprints or specifications.
Welds various kinds of metals.
Ensures accurate and efficient replacement of parts and makes repairs and/or adjustments to equipment, installations and/or fixtures.
Performs functions under direction of line management.
Responsible for the maintenance of accurate records.
Must adhere to Safety, Fire, and Security regulations.
Must be able to work alone or with others as the job requires.
Responsible for safe operation and proper care of materials, tools, and equipment.
Responsible for maintaining a knowledge of applicable Federal, State, Department of Energy, Corporate and Plant rules, regulations, Labor Agreements and Plant-wide operating policies and procedures.
Performs other duties as assigned.
Required to attend and/or successfully complete training classes as determined by the Training and Development Technologies Department, through General Employee Training (Reference DOE Order 426.2), and Management.
Participates in worker involvement including input to work planning and methods to identify hazards and controls.
Understands a worker’s right to stop work when they feel their own or other’s personal safety is jeopardized.
Attends all required safety meetings and training.
Offers suggestions on improvements to the work environment.
