Ingalls Shipbuilding is seeking Skilled Sheetmetal Mechanics who are ready to apply their expertise on a large scale and deliver craftsmanship that lasts for decades. As a Skilled Sheetmetal Mechanic, you’ll fabricate and install a wide variety of sheetmetal components — including ductwork, venting systems, engine exhaust, metal containers, brackets, foundations, and instrumentation panels. Your work shapes the ship’s structure, supports critical systems, and ensures long‑term reliability throughout the fleet. Requirements

  • Proven experience in sheetmetal fabrication, layout, and installation
  • Ability to read and interpret blueprints, drawings, and specifications
  • Skill using metalforming tools and performing shop mathematics
  • Strong commitment to precision, safety, and teamwork
  • Willingness to work in an active industrial environment supporting ship construction
  • Requires a minimum of 1 Year of sheetmetal experience or related craft experience in joiner, shipfitting, and/or carpentry.

Nice To Haves

  • Ability to set up and operate a variety of sheetmetal machines such as brakes and shears
  • Pass a skill assessment test
  • Ability to read marine blueprints
  • Work from standard and metric specifications

Responsibilities

  • Fabricate, cut, bend, form, and install sheetmetal components to exact specifications
  • Build and install ductwork, venting systems, exhaust systems, metal containers, instrumentation panels, and shipboard structures
  • Plan and lay out work from blueprints, drawings, and other specifications using shop mathematics
  • Use fabrication tools including brakes, shears, rollers, grinders, drills, layout tools, and measurement equipment
  • Verify measurements, maintain accuracy, and ensure all work meets Ingalls craftsmanship and safety standards
  • Work in shipyard environments that may involve heights, confined spaces, and varying weather conditions
  • Support production across multiple shifts to meet ship construction schedules
