About The Position

This role involves operating an industrial sheetfed printing press, assisting the first operator with production and quality, and maintaining the press and its environment. The operator will replenish consumables, perform job setups, monitor print quality, troubleshoot issues, and assist with maintenance tasks. The position requires a basic understanding of sheetfed press operations and a commitment to quality and efficiency.

Requirements

  • 2-3 years of experience on offset presses or equivalent.
  • Technical/mechanical aptitude
  • Quality conscious
  • Detail oriented
  • Knowledge of computers
  • Ability to read and write English

Responsibilities

  • Responsible for job setup, including reviewing job tickets, ensuring all necessary materials are on hand, hanging plates, changing blankets, and setting up/monitoring the feeder portion of the press.
  • Responsible for the production of the job, including maintaining consistent ink levels, mixing ink as needed, assisting in the inspection and ensuring quality of print (color, register, imperfections), ensuring the best possible quality of samples, and checking runability in other departments.
  • Ability to troubleshoot and assist in solving problems as they arise.
  • Maintain an awareness of schedule, achieving the best possible production speeds.
  • Wash up press at the end of the job or shift.
  • Assist the first press operator to promote efficient operation of the press and a clean press environment.
  • Communicate press maintenance, supply, and safety issues to the shift supervisor.
  • Assist in setting and replacing rollers, as required.
  • Perform simple maintenance tasks, such as greasing fittings. Assist maintenance staff with major repairs. Perform scheduled preventative maintenance, as required.
  • Comply with company rules, regulations, and standard operating procedures.
  • Maintain confidentiality of company-sensitive data.
  • Implement a commitment to quality philosophy and recommend methods and procedures to reduce cost and/or improve quality and operating efficiency of the department.
  • Keep manager/supervisor informed of activities and situations that will impact the achievement of corporate or department goals and objectives.
  • Perform other related duties, as required, to achieve the goals and objectives of the department and company.
