About The Position

This position involves planning, fabricating, assembling, and installing sheet metal components and systems. The role requires determining the sequence of operations, laying out guide lines for shearing and forming, and calculating bend allowances. The Sheet Metal Worker will set up and operate various hand and power sheet metal fabrication machines, perform complete assembly of complex units like paint booth waterfalls and ventilation systems, and execute all sheet metal work for major installations, including functional testing. The role may also involve operating electronic data entry, storage, processing, and retrieval equipment. Requirements

  • Experience installing metal duct work.
  • Experience using hand tools typically used in sheet metal work.
  • Experience using drill press, shears, brakes, and rollers to work thin gauge metals.
  • Experience using a tape measure.

Nice To Haves

  • Expertise in designing, fabricating, and installing heavy‑duty metal structures and systems within an factory setting.
  • Experience with industrial Vacuum dust systems
  • To have worked with insulating pipe systems

Responsibilities

  • Plans the work by determining sequence of fabrication, assembly and installation operations described herein and the need and advisability of scaffolding and rigging.
  • Lays out on flat raw stock or on heavy paper (to be used as a template) guide lines and points for shearing and forming operations following detail blueprints and sketches.
  • Obtains bend allowances when developing flat layouts, by using charts or tables.
  • Lays out items involving tapers, square to round transitions, offsets, and compound fittings such as an offset which also bends around a beam.
  • Sets up and operates hand and power sheet metal fabrication machines as shears, brakes, drill presses and forming rolls to perform any operation required in sheet metal maintenance work.
  • Performs the complete assembly of such complex sheet metal units as complete paint booth waterfalls, ventilation, dust collecting and air conditioning systems and refrigerator duct units.
  • Performs any fabrication work in the manufacture of the above mentioned units and systems.
  • Performs all sheet metal work in connection with the complete installation of such completed major assemblies as paint waterfalls, refrigerator unit ducts and exhaust, dust collecting, ventilation and air conditioning systems, being guided by trade practice and using blueprints to determine routing, locations, fastening points and clearances.
  • Makes functional test of these installations.
  • Performs any sheet metal work required in the above installation operations.
  • May be required to operate electronic data entry, storage, processing, and/or retrieval equipment as routine part of accomplishing their normal job assignments.
