About The Position

The Ohio Department of Rehabilitation and Correction is seeking a Sheet Metal Worker to join their team. This role involves fabricating and repairing sheet metal components, serving as a lead worker, and ensuring compliance with security regulations within a correctional environment. Requirements

• 18 months of training or 18 months of verifiable experience in sheet metal work under the supervision of an experienced sheet metal worker.
• Formal education in arithmetic that includes fractions and percentages.
• Ability to read and write common English vocabulary.
• 6 months of experience as a Sheet Metal Worker 1 (52271).
• Equivalent of Minimum Class Qualifications for Employment.
• Proficiency in sheet metal trade.
• Skills in General Maintenance, Building Maintenance, Problem Solving, Flexibility, and Time Management.

Nice To Haves

• Experience with structured steel/heavy metal fabrication and repair.
• Experience working in a correctional environment.
• Ability to perform semi-skilled carpentry, painting, plumbing, electrical, and HVAC tasks.

Responsibilities

• Serve as lead worker, providing work direction and training to lower-level sheet metal workers, helpers, and incarcerated persons.
• Fabricate and repair sheet metal products such as ductwork, kitchen equipment, and security fixtures.
• Participate in repairing roofs, gutters, downspouts, and flashings.
• Weld metal and install metal security fixtures, electrical appliances, and furniture.
• Design/redesign, fabricate, modify, install, and repair complex sheet metal and steel/heavy metal parts, components, and assemblies.
• Plan and evaluate jobs, estimate time, and lay out patterns.
• Determine materials needed, complete cost estimates, and submit purchase requests.
• Read blueprints and schematic diagrams.
• Maintain tool counts and inventory of tools used by incarcerated persons.
• Maintain and clean equipment and tools.
• Prepare and maintain required records and reports.
• Perform other maintenance and miscellaneous duties, including semi-skilled carpentry, painting, plumbing, electrical, and HVAC.
• Maintain inventory of supplies.
• Ensure compliance with security regulations.
• Operate snow and ice removal, grass cutting, and heavy equipment.
• Serve on institutional committees.
• Attend training, seminars, and meetings as required.
• Perform security functions as required.
• Perform other duties as assigned.
