About The Position

Vertical Mechanical Group (VMG) is seeking experienced Commercial HVAC Sheet Metal Mechanics to join their field teams throughout the DMV region. This role is responsible for installing commercial ductwork, air-distribution systems, and related sheet metal components on new construction and renovation projects. Sheet Metal Mechanics work closely with foremen and field crews to complete installations safely, accurately, and according to project schedules. The ideal candidate has strong commercial ductwork experience, can read mechanical drawings, and takes pride in producing high-quality work. VMG supports a variety of large commercial construction projects, including multifamily and mixed-use developments, universities and educational facilities, healthcare and medical buildings, office buildings and tenant improvements, and hospitality and hotel projects.

Requirements

  • Minimum 2 years of commercial HVAC sheet metal experience
  • Hands-on experience installing ductwork in commercial buildings
  • Ability to read and interpret mechanical drawings and blueprints
  • Knowledge of sheet metal installation methods, materials, and equipment
  • Experience with duct layout and commercial mechanical construction
  • Ability to safely operate hand tools, power tools, lifts, and installation equipment
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a field crew
  • Dependability, attention to detail, and a strong commitment to safety
  • Ability to travel to project sites throughout the DMV region

Nice To Haves

  • OSHA 10 or OSHA 30 certification

Responsibilities

  • Install commercial HVAC ductwork and sheet metal systems
  • Lay out and install air-distribution systems according to approved plans
  • Install dampers, fittings, hangers, supports, and related HVAC components
  • Measure, cut, assemble, and modify sheet metal materials as needed
  • Read and interpret mechanical drawings, blueprints, and project specifications
  • Coordinate installation activities with foremen and other field trades
  • Operate lifts, power tools, hand tools, and installation equipment safely
  • Inspect completed work for proper fit, alignment, and workmanship
  • Follow company safety policies and applicable jobsite requirements
  • Maintain clean, organized, and safe work areas
  • Communicate material needs, field conflicts, and installation concerns promptly
  • Work efficiently with the crew to support project schedules and production goals
