Headquarters, Air Force Reserve Command•Peterson AFB, CO

About The Position

This Air Reserve Technician (ART) position performs aircraft structural maintenance and support equipment repair, including planning, laying out, fabricating, modifying, repairing, assembling, corrosion control, specialized coatings, advanced composites, tubing, and installing sheet metal parts and assemblies. The employee also provides training to reservists. ARTs are part of the regular career civil service and must maintain active membership in the assigned Air Force Reserve unit. They receive, on average, one weekend of military training per month, and the work schedule is aligned to allow participation in unit training assemblies. Regular assignments are ART duties; some non-ART duties may also be assigned, generally not exceeding 30 percent of total responsibilities. The mechanic plans work using engineering data, blueprints, sketches, drawings, specifications, and work orders; develops patterns and forms, joins, assembles, and installs components; and operates and maintains hand tools, power tools, and shop equipment. The role includes inspecting and preparing surfaces, applying chemical compounds and protective or specialized coatings, and disposing of hazardous waste in accordance with environmental and safety requirements. The employee repairs, modifies, and manufactures fiberglass, bonded honeycomb, and composite/metal structural components, and prepares training plans for Reserve training. The position requires the ability to perform sheet metal mechanic work with little or no supervision, maintain a Secret clearance, and meet and maintain Air Force Reserve requirements. The employee is subject to pre-employment and random drug testing. Overtime may be required to meet workload demands, and temporary duty travel away from the normal duty station may require flying in military or commercial aircraft. Other duties include cleaning the work area and equipment and training regular Air Force or Department of Defense civilian personnel, if applicable.
