About The Position
Metro Mechanical is hiring for HVAC Sheet Metal Helpers in Hammond, LA. The Sheet Metal Helper/Apprentice will work alongside experienced fabricators and technicians to learn the skills necessary to fabricate commercial HVAC ductwork and sheet metal components. The ideal candidate is dependable, mechanically inclined, eager to learn, and interested in developing a long-term career in the mechanical trades.
Requirements
- Previous construction, HVAC, sheet metal, welding, or mechanical experience is a plus, but not required
- Willingness to learn the sheet metal and HVAC trade
- Mechanically inclined with an interest in hands-on work
- Ability to use basic hand and power tools or willingness to learn
- Basic ability to read a tape measure
- Strong work ethic and reliable attendance
- Ability to follow directions and work effectively as part of a team
- Good attention to detail
- Ability to work in a fast-paced shop environment
- Must be willing to learn and take direction from experienced team members
- Must be able to safely lift and move materials
Nice To Haves
- 6 months–2+ years of construction or mechanical experience
- Previous HVAC or sheet metal experience
- Experience using hand and power tools
- Vocational or technical school experience
- Welding or fabrication experience
- Previous apprenticeship experience
- OSHA 10 certification
Responsibilities
- Assist experienced sheet metal fabricators with the production of commercial HVAC ductwork and fittings
- Learn to read and interpret shop drawings, blueprints, and measurements
- Assist with measuring, marking, cutting, bending, and assembling sheet metal
- Learn proper use of hand tools, power tools, and sheet metal fabrication equipment
- Assist with fabrication of rectangular and spiral ductwork, fittings, transitions, elbows, and other HVAC components
- Load, unload, organize, and move sheet metal and other materials throughout the shop
- Prepare materials and components for delivery to job sites
- Maintain a clean, organized, and safe work area
- Follow instructions from experienced fabricators and supervisors
- Learn and follow proper fabrication techniques and quality standards
- Follow all company safety policies and OSHA requirements
- Assist with inventory and organization of shop materials
- Perform other duties as assigned
