About The Position

The Sheet Metal Fabricator is responsible for reading blueprints and fabricating what is needed for each job. They are responsible for ensuring that all measurements are correct and that the finished product meets specifications.

Requirements

  • Ability to read blueprints and schematics.
  • Ability to solve basic mathematical problems (addition, subtraction, multiplication, division).
  • Must be comfortable working around machinery.
  • Must be committed to following all safety requirements, policies, procedures and protocols.
  • Adheres to all personal protective equipment (PPE) requirements.
  • Familiarity working with sheet metal tools including hand seamers, snips, sheers, and hammers.
  • Willingness and ability to teach others.
  • Minimum 2 years experience working in a fabrication environment

Nice To Haves

  • Working knowledge of geometry is preferred.
  • Experience working with sheet metal preferred

Responsibilities

  • Select, transport, and handle sheets of metal, ensuring they meet specifications and are suitable for the intended project.
  • Interpret engineering drawings, blueprints, or work orders to understand product specifications, dimensions, and assembly instructions.
  • Use cutting tools such as shears, saws, or laser cutting machines to trim and shape metal sheets according to design requirements.
  • Operate press brakes, rollers, or other machinery to bend, fold, or form metal sheets into desired shapes, angles, or curves.
  • Use punch presses or stamping machines to create holes, notches, or other openings in metal sheets.
  • Weld or join metal pieces together using various welding techniques, including MIG, TIG, or spot welding, to create assemblies or structures.
  • Smooth and finish metal surfaces using grinders and deburring tools to remove sharp edges, burrs, or imperfections.
  • Assemble fabricated metal components into finished products or structures, including fastening, riveting, or bolting as needed.
  • Inspect fabricated pieces to ensure they meet quality standards, dimensions, and tolerances specified in the blueprints.
  • Use precision measuring tools such as calipers, rulers, and protractors to verify dimensions and maintain accuracy during fabrication.
  • Minimize waste by efficiently arranging and cutting metal sheets to maximize their utilization.
  • Adhere to safety regulations and guidelines when operating machinery, handling materials, and using protective equipment.
  • Perform routine maintenance and minor repairs on fabrication equipment to ensure proper functionality and safety.
  • Maintain records of materials used, work performed, and production rates for tracking and reporting purposes.
  • Identify and resolve issues that may arise during fabrication, such as material defects, equipment malfunctions, or design discrepancies.
  • Work collaboratively with colleagues, including engineers, designers, and other fabricators, to complete projects efficiently.
  • Stay current with industry trends, new fabrication technologies, and materials through training and professional development. Teach others what you have learned.
