INDUS provides industrial support services across the Undersea Weapons Department (Code 30), Test and Evaluation Department (Code 20), Undersea Systems & Sustainment Department (Code 40) and Unmanned and Theater Undersea Warfare Systems Department (Code 50), of the Naval Undersea Warfare Center (NUWC) Division, Keyport (NUWCDIVKPT). Requirements include providing technical support services associated with various industrial operations, depot repair activities, and torpedo intermediate maintenance functions. Reporting to the Program Manager, the Sheet Metal Fabricator will manufacture precision components and assemblies from metal sheets and tubes on the NUWCDIVKPT Industrial Support Services (ISS) contract. The tasking requires operate of high-tech fabrication equipment, including waterjet cutting systems and tube bending machines, to shape materials according to engineering blueprints. This role requires a blend of technical machine operation, forming, and hands-on manual assembly. This position is located in Keyport, WA. This position works a specific shift: Daytime shift (schedule TBD pending government direction); possible swing shift may be required to meet emergent needs (swing shift differential provided).

Requirements

  • The ability to obtain and maintain an active secret clearance is required to be considered for this position.
  • HS Diploma/GED is required.
  • Minimum three to five (3-5) years of experience in sheet metal fabrication, metalworking, manufacturing, or a related trade environment.
  • Demonstrated knowledge of metal properties, including steel, aluminum, brass, and copper.
  • Ability to read and interpret blueprints, technical drawings, welding symbols, and engineering specifications.
  • Working knowledge of fabrication mathematics, including geometry, trigonometry, and layout calculations.
  • Experience measuring, marking, cutting, forming, assembling, and finishing metal components to specification.
  • Experience operating fabrication equipment such as waterjets, shears, punches, lasers, plasmas, press brakes, rollers, and other sheet metal tools.
  • Experience performing MIG, TIG, and spot welding, as well as riveting and soldering techniques.
  • Proficiency using precision measuring tools and conducting quality inspections.
  • Knowledge of OSHA safety requirements, machine guarding, and proper use of personal protective equipment (PPE).
  • Your ability to receive medical certification (if required).
  • Your ability to obtain and maintain any appropriate licenses and certifications (if required).
  • Must be able to comprehend and execute written and verbal trainings and procedures.
  • Must be able to follow and complete on-the-job training as required: INDOC Training: Positions in the Torpedo Intermediate Maintenance Activity (IMA) and Torpedo Depot require up front 2-week education and familiarization courses with a follow-on test for comprehension.
  • Basic reading, comprehension, and computer skills (see below) are required.
  • QUALS Training: All positions carry some additional qualifications training against the skillsets of an Engineering Technician.
  • At minimum, in addition to skillsets of an Engineering Technician, basic reading comprehension and computer skills (see below) are required.
  • Must possess ability to operate computers and perform the following functions, including but not limited to: Alphanumeric data entry, spreadsheet review and data entry, capability of switching between computer applications with relative ease.
  • Ability to complete Web-Based training.
  • Must be familiar with Microsoft Office suite.
  • Must be legally authorized to work in the United States without the need for employer sponsorship, now or at any time in the future.

Responsibilities

  • Program, set up, and operate waterjet cutting machinery to produce parts from various materials according to engineering drawings and specifications.
  • Perform routine preventative maintenance and troubleshoot the waterjet equipment to ensure operational efficiency.
  • Perform manual sheet metal bending and forming using press brakes, shears, and other standard sheet metal tools.
  • Interpret blueprints and technical drawings to mark out, cut, and shape sheet metal components to precise tolerances.
  • Manually bend and form metal tubing to meet specified angles and dimensions as required by assembly drawings.
  • Assemble complex test sets and other mechanical units by following detailed assembly drawings and work instructions.
  • Install helicoils and other hardware into fabricated components.
  • Perform finishing tasks such as deburring and cleaning of completed parts.
  • Conduct in-process quality checks using precision measuring tools like calipers and micrometers to ensure all parts meet quality standards.
  • Adhere to all workplace health and safety regulations and maintain a clean and organized work area.
  • Ensures all activities comply with Navy DOD directives governing sheet metal fabrication.
  • Contribute to continuous improvement initiatives in line with sheet metal fabrication tasking.
  • Engage both the INDUS Project Lead and customer first line supervisor on a daily basis.
  • Ensure communications, both written and verbal, on timeliness and task execution are commensurate with expectations of both INDUS and the customer.
  • Executes job responsibilities as outlined in the Performance Work Statement (PWS) area and labor category, if applicable.
  • Bid and proposal support if requested.
  • Other duties as assigned.
