About The Position

The SGA DEI Chair serves as the liaison between SGA, multicultural organizations, the Multicultural Leadership Council, and the Office of Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion. This role acts as a resource for the SGA president, Vice Presidents, and other cabinet members on all matters related to diversity, equity, and inclusion. The Chair participates in various college and student-led boards and committees, including the Committee on Diversity & Inclusion (CDI), the Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion Senior Leadership Committee (DEISL), and the Student Curriculum Committee (SCC) as a non-voting member. Regular meetings are held bi-weekly with the Assistant Chief Diversity Officer for Intercultural Student Life. The Chair is responsible for creating an agenda for and facilitating all Multicultural Leadership Council meetings alongside the Assistant Chief Diversity Officer for Intercultural Student Life, representing SGA. Additionally, the Chair meets regularly with student leadership of multicultural groups to discuss their needs and concerns and produces an end-of-semester report for the student body detailing their work.

Requirements

  • Must be a full-time Grinnell College student.
  • Must be in good academic standing.
  • Must be in good conduct standing.
  • Must be in attendance in person on the Grinnell College campus.
  • Must not hold a leadership position with any other Grinnell College student-led entity.

Responsibilities

  • Serve as the liaison between SGA, multicultural organizations, the Multicultural Leadership Council, and the Office of Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion.
  • Serve as a resource for the SGA president, Vice Presidents, and other cabinet members on all matters related to diversity, equity, and inclusion.
  • Participate in various college and student-led boards & committees including but not limited to the Committee on Diversity & Inclusion (CDI), the Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion Senior Leadership Committee (DEISL), and the Student Curriculum Committee (SCC) as a non-voting member.
  • Meet at least bi-weekly with the Assistant Chief Diversity Officer for Intercultural Student Life.
  • Make an agenda for and facilitate all Multicultural Leadership Council meetings alongside Assistant Chief Diversity Officer for Intercultural Student Life as a representative of SGA.
  • Meet regularly with student leadership of multicultural groups to discuss needs and concerns of each respective organization.
  • Produce an end of semester report published to the student body on the work conducted throughout the course of the semester.
  • Attend all Cabinet meetings every first and third Tuesday of the month at 7:00 pm when classes are in session and excluding finals.
  • Attend all Senate meetings, held the second and fourth Tuesday of every month at 8:00 pm while classes are in session and excluding finals.
  • Attend Training at 4:15 on Tuesday afternoons.
