About The Position

The Division of Disease Control's mission is to safeguard the health of New Yorkers through identification, surveillance, treatment, control, and prevention of infectious diseases, which is achieved through varied and interrelated endeavors of its seven Bureaus. The Bureau of Public Health Clinics (BPHC) mission is to promote a healthy community by providing New Yorkers with the resources needed to make informed and empowered health decisions; identify and treat tuberculosis and provide immunization and sexual health services regardless of ability to pay or immigration status. BPHC provides direct clinic services to people seeking health care; monitors disease trends; provides education and training to service providers and community groups; conducts research; and develops policies and programs to deliver high quality clinical care which best serve New Yorkers

Requirements

  • Possession of a valid license to practice medicine in the State of New York plus valid Board Certification issued by the appropriate American Specialty Board in an approved medical specialty; and four years of medical practice including one year of experience in an administrative or supervisory capacity; or
  • A combination of education and/or experience equivalent to that listed in "1" above. However, all candidates must have a valid license to practice medicine in the State of New York, and one year of medical practice in an administrative or supervisory capacity

Nice To Haves

  • Board Certified physician with specialty in Family Medicine or Internal Medicine
  • Specialization in Infectious Diseases is a plus but not required
  • Experience with STI, HIV prevention and management
  • A minimum of 2 years of experience in public health and clinical program implement
  • Prior supervisory and staff management experience
  • Excellent interpersonal, communication and presentation skills

Responsibilities

  • Providing clinical leadership to the Sexual Health Clinics through a public health lens, centering increased access to care and health equity for all Sexual Health Clinics patients.
  • Monitoring and improving patient outcomes and quality of care.
  • Ensuring that the medical policies and procedures are maintained up to date and consistent with guidelines established by NYCDOHMH, NYSDOH, Article 28/NYS, CDC, HRSA/340b, and relevant MCO guidelines.
  • Communicating new and updated protocols and procedures to Sexual Health Clinic clinicians through trainings, written memos.
  • Facilitate environment for professional development of clinicians through development and sharing of scientific research, publications, continuous training.
  • Working collaboratively with Bureau staff, including the Medical Director for Reproductive Health, directors of other units (Nursing, Clinic Operations, Medical Informatics, Laboratory, Behavioral Health, Pharmacy, etc.). Work collaboratively with colleagues across the Division of Disease Control and other divisions within the agency.
  • Providing telephone consultation to clinicians in the Sexual Health Clinics and providers citywide who request assistance managing STIs.
  • Participating in Quality Improvement Executive Council (QIEC).
  • Developing and implementing new service programs pertinent to Sexual Health.
  • Supervising and managing the medical team, including recruitment, hiring, onboarding and yearly performance evaluation.
  • Ensuring that resources are used efficiently, and that clinician staffing maximizes their contribution to meeting patient, clinic, and fiscal goals of the organization.
  • Providing clinical care in the Sexual Health Clinics for a minimum of 28 hours per month (one day per week); participate in the afterhours On-Call program and participate in emergency preparedness activities and response as assigned.
