About The Position

The Sexual Assault Nurse Examiner (SANE) Program Coordinator is responsible for ensuring the provision of compassionate care to aid in the recovery of patients who are victims of sexual assault. This role develops and maintains operational oversight of the SANE program, manages individual providers functioning in the role, ensures compliance with all state and federal regulations, and provides education/support to staff at levels regarding the care of patients who are victims of sexual assault.

Requirements

  • Graduate of an NLN accredited School of Nursing
  • Bachelors of Science in Nursing or higher
  • Current Illinois RN license
  • Active BLS Certification through American Heart Association
  • Current Illinois certification as a SANE-A and SANE-P (or have certification completed within 18 months of hire)
  • Three years nursing experience, preferably in the emergency setting.
  • Associate Degree in Nursing
  • Associate Degree Nurses are required to enroll in a BSN program within six (6) to nine (9) months of hire, and make progress toward and complete their BSN degree within 30 months.

Nice To Haves

  • ED RN experience
  • Two years of leadership experience preferred

Responsibilities

  • Provides clinical care to adult and pediatric victims of sexual assault as needed.
  • Provides leadership and oversight of the SANE Program in a manner that promotes the organization’s purpose and mission.
  • Support and guide UCM SANE program development; serve as a centralized contact person for questions / problems; provide technical assistance; research and incorporate national best practices into all policies and procedures; ensure consistency among SANE programs at the Hyde Park Campus and Ingalls Campus.
  • Coordinate and implement SANE training activities, both initial and continuing education; conduct clinical precept opportunities; oversee nursing CE applications for training events.
  • Coordinate and strengthen communication and collaboration among the multi-disciplinary SANE partners; participate in relevant statewide meetings to ensure that sexual assault patient needs and SANE guidelines are addressed.
  • Support community education, public outreach, and develop partnership with outside agencies.
  • Provides clinical oversight and peer review for SANE nursing staff.
  • Prepares the monthly on call schedule. Communicates schedule to ensure 24/7 coverage.
  • Maintains supplies and equipment as needed to conduct forensic examinations.
  • Participates in continuous quality improvement process. Identifies SANE related issues to be examined, participates in data collection and analysis.
  • Assists in initiating and implementing necessary changes in patient centered care delivery through the sharing of research, current trends, and authority as in an expert practitioner.
  • Promotes utilization of research findings by making appropriate recommendations for change in policies, procedures, and practice.
  • Collects data for submission to regulatory bodies.
  • Coordinates the revision and implementation of the Sexual Assault Treatment Plan.
