About The Position

This position, reporting to the Associate Director of Student Wellness Services, provides front-line support to student survivors of sexual and gender-based violence. The role focuses on assisting students with concerns related to their experiences and their impact on functioning within the post-secondary context. The Coordinator will be the primary point of contact for staff and faculty support cases and will coordinate and facilitate training and educational initiatives for them. While based at the University of Guelph main campus, virtual support services will be provided for the Ridgetown Campus.

Requirements

  • Masters level in Social Work or equivalent preferred.
  • 3 years’ experience working with survivors of sexual violence from a trauma-informed perspective.
  • Knowledge of best practices in sexual violence education and training, including a strong understanding of program efficacy in sexual violence prevention.
  • Experience working from an anti-oppressive framework and attenuating to the ways in which race, gender, sexuality, class, and other aspects of one's identity impacts and intersects survivors’ experiences.
  • Understanding of the needs of traditionally underserved communities.
  • Demonstrated expertise in crisis intervention and risk assessment and management.
  • Experience working with university-aged young adults.
  • Knowledge of community-based resources.
  • Knowledge of relevant Ontario legislation including Human Rights Code, Sexual Violence and Misconduct Policy Act, FIPPA, PHIPPA.
  • Knowledge of judicial processes including administrative law, criminal law, and Victims Services is an asset.
  • Excellent interpersonal and communication skills.
  • Strong written, oral and presentation skills.
  • Flexible work hours, some occasional evenings.

Responsibilities

  • Serve as a campus resource for knowledge and best practices for survivors of sexual and gender-based violence.
  • Foster collaborations across university departments and in the community to provide optimal service for students impacted by sexual and gender-based violence.
  • Utilize a survivor-centered and trauma-informed approach.
  • Act as the first point of contact for disclosures.
  • Conduct screening and triage for sexual and gender-based violence cases.
  • Assess and manage risk.
  • Respond to urgent/crisis phone calls and walk-in visits related to sexual or gender-based violence.
  • Provide education and resources.
  • Coordinate requests for accommodations.
  • Offer emotional and practical support for students navigating various on- and off-campus resources.
  • Coordinate and facilitate staff and faculty training and educational initiatives.
  • Provide virtual support services for the Ridgetown Campus.
