About The Position

Supervises and participates in the construction, installation, maintenance, repair, testing and construction inspection of the sanitary and storm sewer collection systems; confers with contractors and customers regarding the sewer systems; Supervise and Participate in cement or street repairs. Keeps various records; performs related work as required.

Requirements

  • Two (2) years’ experience as a Senior Sewer Systems Construction Operator.
  • Possession of a valid State of Michigan Driver's License at time of appointment.
  • Must possess a valid MIOSHA Certificate of Training as a “competent person” in excavation safety within six (6) months of appointment.

Responsibilities

  • Supervises and participates in constructing and repairing storm and sanitary sewers, catch basins, catch basin inlets, leads, manholes, and sewer siphons.
  • Supervises and participates in making new connections to the storm and sanitary sewer systems.
  • Supervises and participates in the operation of portable air compressors, pumps, generators, hydraulic or air powered pipe cutters, and tapping or drilling machines. Drives light to heavy duty vehicles and equipment.
  • Prepares, reviews, and verifies daily work reports; writes accident and damage reports, completes various production forms and maintains all necessary records as required.
  • Contacts customers regarding sewer problems and temporary disruptions in service; investigates customer complaints.
  • May supervise or participate with crews engaged in Water operations, Sewer Maintenance operations or snow removal operations.
  • Identifies equipment replacement needs and assists in specification preparations.
  • Supervises and participates in training subordinates in safety and adherence to MIOSHA standards. Make inspections to insure that proper safety precautions are observed in sewer operations and equipment is in safe working condition; enforces safety regulations including MDOT traffic control guidelines
  • Receives, responds to, and investigates customer complaints; dispatches service truck to handle complaints. Make recommendations for final resolution.
  • Participates in the instruction of an ongoing training program for all Sewer Operations activities.
  • Participates in GIS based Asset Management Plan and work order system.
