About The Position

Maintains grounds and right-of-way maintenance and mowing. Assists with the installation, maintenance, repair, service, enlargement and relocation of sewer facilities. The primary duties will be grounds and right-of-way maintenance and mowing. Employee will assist other sewer maintenance team members during times of need and between mowing.

Requirements

  • Knowledge of right-of-way maintenance including drainage repairs and vegetation control.
  • Familiar with common hand tools and equipment used in grounds maintenance.
  • Knowledge of hazards and safety precautions required in a right-of-way.
  • Ability to lift and carry 40 pounds frequently and 100 pounds occasionally.
  • Ability to communicate effectively with work crews and others as needed.
  • Ability to read and comprehend safety manuals, signs, maps, etc.
  • Ability to work outdoors under varying weather conditions and terrain.
  • High school diploma or general education degree (GED).
  • One year of related experience and/or training with equipment operation and maintenance is preferred.
  • Employee must possess or have the ability to obtain a Class A Commercial Driver’s License with tanker endorsement and a D Wastewater Collection License.

Responsibilities

  • Trims, cuts and fells trees using power and pole saws. Disposes of debris by using scatter techniques.
  • Mows right-of-ways with tractor-mounted rear deck and side-arm mowers.
  • Installs culverts and repairs right-of-ways, installs and repairs gates; operates heavy trucks, trailers and other machinery.
  • Assists Right-of-Way Maintenance Foreman with right-of-way and grounds maintenance.
  • Sprays weed killer, weed eating as necessary, and any other maintenance as it pertains to right-of-way and/or grounds.
  • Performs routine maintenance and cleanliness of all LCWSD equipment and vehicles as they pertain to the Department.
  • Operates all necessary equipment for the purposes of performing the duties of these requirements. May include but is not limited to: push mowers, light duty trucks, blowers, trimmers, shovels, chainsaws and rakes.
  • Confers with representatives of other utilities to coordinate utility locates for the most effective and economic installation and/or repair activities.
  • Annually assists sewer maintenance to clean lift stations.
  • Will assist with other duties as required by the Sewer Superintendent.
  • Identifies issues or situations as they occur and specifies decision objectives. Assist in identifying alternative solutions to issues and carry out decisions in accordance with all District Safety procedures and other policies with minimum error. Employee shall seek management advice and research issues, situations, and alternatives before exercising judgement.
  • Accepts instruction and direction, strives to meet the goals and objectives of the District.
  • Offers suggestions and recommendations to encourage and improve cooperation individually and with other team members.
  • Employee is required to be on after hour call which includes, but is not limited to, nights, weekends, and holidays as scheduled by Management.
  • Works in an environment as to follow all District safety programs.
  • Performs related tasks as required.
