About The Position

Jefferson County is seeking a well-qualified, motivated Sewer Line Video Specialist to assist a Sewer Video Supervisor in the operation and maintenance of video camera and sound equipment used in the inspection and location of damaged sanitary sewer lines in Jefferson County. This includes lifting manhole covers and placing camera and crawler into the sewer or placing sound equipment over the sewer to inspect sewer lines. Work also includes performing a variety of unskilled and semi-skilled manual labor in order to make minor repairs to manholes and sewer lines when not engaged in inspecting sewers with video equipment. Work is primarily performed at outdoor worksites and frequently requires incumbents to work in and around traffic.

Requirements

  • Driver's license.
  • Experience using hand tools (screwdrivers, Allen wrenches, hammers, saws).

Nice To Haves

  • Experience with sewer maintenance in a collection system.
  • Experience using TV inspection trucks and related equipment (e.g., crawlers, SL-RAT, coaxial connectors).
  • Experience reading maps.

Responsibilities

  • Performs pre-trip inspection by checking all vehicle fluids, tires, and lights, filling the holding tank with water, checking the camera to ensure it is working properly, taking inventory of supplies and making any minor repairs before driving to the job site.
  • Receives assignments and prepares for inspections by driving to job site, and setting up equipment based on the job specifications.
  • Inspects sewer line by entering manholes and placing camera and crawler into the sewer, utilizing camera equipment to view the sewer line, and utilizing SLRAT equipment, and placing all equipment back onto truck at the completion of a job.
  • Ensures that all safety procedures are followed while on work site by properly setting up work site and wearing appropriate safety gear.
  • Ensures all safety equipment and tools are on truck (e.g., safety signs, flashlights, vests, cones, batteries, marker paints, gas and metal detectors, replacement wheels, etc.).
  • Ensures all vehicle fluids are checked such as the oil, transmission, antifreeze, and power steering so the truck is safe and ready to be operated.
  • Performs preventative maintenance on departmental equipment and tools (e.g., camera, truck, crawler, etc.).
  • Prepares for daily activities by meeting with supervisors to discuss work orders, assignments, staffing and equipment needs.
  • Troubleshoots equipment (camera or crawler) by using the bypass co-axe (jumper wire).
  • Assesses the work site and follows instructions from supervisor on placement of camera truck over manhole.
