About The Position

The Settlement Accountant II performs and assists in a variety of daily loan accounting activities for Merrick Bank Corporation (the “Bank”). Responsibilities include but are not limited to; completion of account reconciliations with varying degrees of complexity, working with the Bank’s servicer and customer service departments to ensure that account adjustments are completed accurately and timely, compiling various reporting from processing systems and other duties as assigned by management. The Settlement Accountant II must ensure all job duties are completed in compliance with established controls and procedures and with a high degree of accuracy.

Requirements

  • Associate’s degree in finance-related studies, or equivalent broad experience required, two years of related and equivalent experience accepted in lieu of education requirement.
  • Experience with, and demonstrated skill at, the following computer applications: Spreadsheet (Excel preferred), ten key and e-mail.
  • Ability to identify and solve problems with little or no supervision.
  • Responsible, flexible individual with strong mathematical and analytical skills.
  • Communicates effectively both orally and in writing; presents ideas in a clear, concise, understandable and organized manner.
  • Must be detail oriented.
  • Effective time management skills.
  • Knowledge of credit card/installment loan processes to include but not limited to; charge off, repossession, chargebacks, payments and funding.
  • Demonstrate ability to meet deadlines effectively and with a high level of accuracy.
  • Knowledge of job-related Regulations.
  • Demonstrated ability to work with both internal and external departments to resolve and/or identify issues in shared processes.
  • Ability to work collaboratively with settlement team members

Nice To Haves

  • Four years of accounting or credit card and/or installment loan experience is preferred.
  • Oracle Cloud Financial experience a plus.

Responsibilities

  • Reconciles various, more complex lending settlement suspense accounts including researching outstanding items and working with the Bank’s servicing team to make the necessary adjustments to the loan accounts to clear the outstanding items.
  • Ability to cover multiple tasks for the credit card and/or installment loan team.
  • Ability to identify process issues and clearly report such issues to management, as appropriate.
  • Assists in Settlement Management with special projects and testing new processes.
  • Prepares daily general ledger entries for credit card and/or installment loan settlement activity for recording to the general ledger.
  • Compiles and/or creates various daily and/or monthly reports from the Bank’s loan processing platforms to be utilized by the Bank’s settlement team.
  • Prepares daily settlement related wires as assigned by management.
  • Other duties as assigned by Settlement Management.
  • Responsible for complying with all the Bank’s internal control policies and procedures.
  • Responsible for understanding and complying with all laws and regulations to which the Bank is subject.
  • Responsible for communicating problems in operations, noncompliance with the code of conduct, noncompliance with laws and regulations, policy violations, or illegal acts.
