Set-up Mechanic / Maintenance
About The Position
The Set-up Mechanic / Maintenance position is responsible for ensuring the operation and appearance of machinery, equipment, and production facilities. This involves performing preventative maintenance, inspections, setups, repairs, and upgrades according to various technical documents and instructions. The role also includes maintaining organized parts and supplies inventories, understanding and following procedures, reporting project needs, and completing necessary documentation such as work orders and PM forms. The successful candidate will communicate needs to supervision, train others as needed, and maintain technical knowledge. Basic electrical techniques are required, along with the mechanical ability to troubleshoot, diagnose, and repair factory equipment under time pressure, including dismantling and reassembling equipment. The ability to operate all production equipment and use Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) safely is essential. This role may involve confined space entry and performing other duties as assigned by supervision.
Requirements
- Must be able to work regular shift and overtime as needed.
- Must be able to frequently lift and / or move up to 50 lbs. and occasionally lift and / or move up to 100 lbs.
- Must have reading (English), writing (English), and math skills (addition / subtraction / multiplication / division).
- Must be able to communicate and work with peers/management.
- Must be able to work in different environment temperatures.
- Must be able to work in all exterior weather conditions and temperatures.
- Must be able to read and plan work from instructions, sketches, and prints.
- Must be able to climb ladders and work at various heights including roofs, bulk tanks, silos, etc.
- Must be capable of following verbal and written instructions.
- Required to spend 95% of an 8-hour shift standing, walking, climbing, stooping, kneeling, crouching and / or crawling to perform various tasks / functions.
- Must have a range of motion for lifting, twisting, bending, turning, stooping, reaching, and kneeling.
- Must be able to work as part of the team.
- Will be exposed frequently to dust & product smells.
- Must successfully pass any required testing.
- Must be physically able to pass respirator medical evaluation / fit test and work wearing a respirator.
- Must be able to pass forklift certification and safely operate a forklift.
- Required minimum dress in long pants and sleeved shirt.
- Must have a reasonable supply of maintenance tools (required to perform jobs listed above), tool box, and have the knowledge of the proper use of the tools.
- Must have adequate clothing to work in all exterior weather conditions and temperatures.
- A change of clothes kept on premises in the employee’s locker is required in the event clothes are deemed unwearable due to environmental conditions.

- May be required to temporarily transfer between plant and / or shift based on business needs.
Responsibilities
- Ensure operation and appearance of machinery, equipment, and production facilities by completing preventative maintenance, inspections, setups, repairs, and upgrades.
- Follow diagrams, sketches, manuals, manufacturer’s instructions, engineering instructions, and/or verbal instructions.
- Complete all functions necessary to maintain organized parts & supplies inventories.
- Understand and follow procedures and work instructions applicable to the job function.
- Report projects needing attention and fill out work orders, PM forms, and charts as needed.
- Communicate needs to supervision.
- Train and transfer knowledge as needed.
- Maintain technical knowledge as required via internal and external means.
- Understand basic electrical techniques.
- Perform normal maintenance repairs on factory equipment.
- Troubleshoot, diagnose, and make necessary repairs under timing pressures.
- Dismantle and reassemble most equipment used in the facility.
- Operate all production equipment.
- Use Personal Protective Equipment as required and follow all safety rules.
- Perform confined space entry.
- Perform related duties as needed by supervision.
