This six-week program gives students ages 10 – 17 the opportunity to learn the behind-the-scenes aspects of running a show! Students will work with the set designer to build, paint, and design all the aspects of our fall production of Aristophanes’ ‘The Birds.’ After construction is complete, students will have the opportunity to assist in technical rehearsals with prop management, costume support, opening and closing the curtain, and moving set pieces for scene changes. Working closely with the director and other members of our show’s creative team, the Set Design Instructor will coordinate and oversee the artistic design and construction of the set for Aristophanes ‘The Birds.’ The instructor will supervise and instruct a small student crew in both artistic and practical design, as well as ensuring safe practices. Construction will primarily consist of repainting existing sets/flats and building new pieces out of foamcore, cardboard, and lauan. This is not a carpentry course, and students are not permitted to operate power tools. After construction is complete, the Set Design Instructor will serve as an Assistant Stage Manager helping oversee the behind-the-scenes management of sets and props during dress rehearsals and performances.
