About The Position

The Sessional Lecturer provides instruction to undergraduate students in the Faculty of Business and IT for the course INFR 4599U - Special Topics in IT - Data Analytics. This course is cross-listed with BUSI 4590U Special Topics in Tech. Mgmt - Data Analytics. The primary responsibility is to develop and teach a theoretically, methodologically sophisticated and relevant course at the university level. The course will be delivered using a technology-enhanced learning approach that includes a variety of inclusive teaching and learning strategies and assessments, utilizing laptop computers and wireless connectivity. The Sessional Lecturer will prepare, deliver, and grade all course material and assignments and be available for consultation with students.

Requirements

  • A proven commitment to providing innovative and inclusive teaching strategies.
  • Evidence of an ability to work in a collaborative environment.
  • Excellent communication skills with an ability to maintain effective relationships with a range of faculty, staff and students.
  • Demonstrated excellence in teaching undergraduate students in a commerce or information technology program.
  • Demonstrated knowledge and experience with the Learning Management System, Canvas.
  • Demonstrated ability to deliver classes remotely, using online modalities such as Kaltura Media and Google Meets.
  • Proven experience managing large classes and diverse populations.
  • Excellent organizational skills are needed to effectively manage course delivery, the marking of assignments and exams and the ability respond to student enquiries in a timely manner.
  • A Graduate degree in data analytics; OR Graduate degree in software engineering, computer science, applied mathematics or statistics, industrial engineering, or operations research/management AND demonstrated industry, research, or teaching experience in data analytics.
  • Candidates can demonstrate industry experience by providing detailed information about the positions they have held and the responsibilities attached to their role.
  • Candidates can demonstrate research experience by providing a list of publications and projects and a copy of at least one publication related to data analytics.
  • Candidates can demonstrate their teaching experience by including the course outlines, along with teaching reviews, of the data analytics courses they have taught.
  • Must be legally eligible to work in Canada for the duration of the contract.

  • A doctoral degree will be considered an asset.
  • Demonstrated teaching excellence experiences in commerce or information technology program in a post-secondary environment.
  • Priority will be given to an Internal Applicant who has taught any course for the University in three (3) different sessions in the past thirty-six (36) months, provided they meet the requirements for the position as outlined in the job posting.

Responsibilities

  • Develop and teach a theoretically, methodologically sophisticated and relevant course at the university level within the parameters of the course description.
  • Deliver the course using a technology-enhanced learning approach that includes a variety of inclusive teaching and learning strategies and assessments.
  • Prepare, deliver and grade all course material and assignments.
  • Be available for consultation with students during and following completion of the course session.
  • Coordinate and supervise Teaching Assistants as applicable.
