About The Position

This is a course for Introduction to Classical Mythology (CLA204H5S) at the University of Toronto Mississauga (UTM). The course will cover a survey of the myths and legends of the ancient Greek and Roman Mediterranean world as depicted in ancient art and literature. It may also explore their reception in modern art and literature, as well as modern theories of myth. The estimated course enrollment is 150 students, with an estimated TA support of 200 hours. The class schedule is Thursdays, 11:00 AM - 1:00 PM. The sessional dates of appointment are from January 1, 2027, to April 30, 2027.

Requirements

• Ph.D. in Classics or a related discipline
• Academic preparation in the area of Greco-Roman civilization
• Advanced knowledge of classical Greek and Latin

• Development, administration, and marking of assignments, tests, and exams
• Dealing with student inquiries
• Calculation and submission of grades (including any grading or submission of grades not completed by the end of session)
• Holding regular office hours
• Supervising TAs (if any) assigned to the course
