About The Position

The University of Toronto Faculty of Information is seeking a Sessional Lecturer for the Winter Term 2027 (January 2027 - April 2027) to teach INF2164H - UX Research and Design for Video Games. This course examines the roles of User Experience Design (UXD) and User Experience Research (UXR) in video games and the video games industry. It covers video games as interactive interfaces, core video game concepts, the role of UX in game development, and the applicability of UX research methods to this domain. Key industry trends will be illustrated with current examples. Students will engage in video game analysis, heuristic evaluation, and usability, appreciation, and challenge testing using industry-standard tools. Inclusivity, accessibility, and designing games for everyone will be a recurring theme. The estimated course enrollment is 35 students, with no TA support anticipated. The lecturer is expected to be located in geographical proximity to the University premises to perform duties on-site.

Requirements

  • Completed, or nearly completed, PhD degree in an area related to the course OR a Master’s degree plus extensive professional experience in an area related to the course
  • Teaching experience is preferred
  • Must be located in geographical proximity to the applicable University premises to attend and perform duties on University premises as of the Starting Date.
