About The Position

Forensic toxicology involves the study of the adverse effects of drugs, alcohol and poisons on biological systems in a medicolegal context. This course will include a review of pharmacokinetics, analytical techniques and quality assurance measures used in forensic toxicology, the effects of drugs on human performance and post-mortem toxicology of illicit drugs, pharmaceutical drugs and other poisons. The major focus of this course will be the role that a forensic toxicologist plays in criminal and death investigations. [36L]

Requirements

  • A Ph.D. (completed or ABD with active student status at issuing institution) in Chemistry or Toxicology, or at minimum an Honours Bachelor of Science with 5+ years’ experience in a forensic toxicology lab.
  • Experience in the field of Forensic Toxicology or equivalent
  • Experience teaching toxicology courses is required.

  • Experience acting as an expert witness in a Canadian court of law is highly desirable
  • Teaching excellence and mastery of the subject area
  • Experience with management and delivery of courses using University of Toronto or similar systems (e.g., Quercus, Canvas-based technologies, Zoom, etc.) is preferred.

Responsibilities

  • Preparation and delivery of course material
  • Preparation and delivery of assignments, tests and/or exams
  • Supervision of teaching assistants (includes providing instruction on how to mark, as well as holding office hours)
  • Marking of students’ work (during the term and beyond if an extension of time is granted by the university officials)
  • Submission of grades to university officials
  • Holding regular office hours
