About The Position

This course is recommended for students in the life and health science programs and is a continuation of CHM136H1 (Introductory Organic Chemistry I). The course commences with an outline of structure elucidation techniques in organic chemistry (spectroscopy) and proceeds to discuss the reactivity and properties of important functional groups. Emphasis is placed on synthetic and mechanistic principles that are applied to pharmaceutically and biologically important compounds whenever possible, providing students with a working knowledge of modern organic chemistry. The Department of Chemistry requires a sessional lecturer to deliver and facilitate the in-person laboratories in CHM247H1 (Introductory Organic Chemistry II) during the 2027 Winter session.

  • A PhD in chemistry or a closely related field.

Responsibilities

  • Deliver and facilitate in-person laboratories.
  • Effectively coordinate labs with all attendant organizational issues of laboratory preparation and delivery.
  • Supervise laboratory demonstrators.
  • Invigilate and mark tests and exams.
  • Manage and report student laboratory marks.
  • Hold office hours.
