About The Position

Math Background Tutorials (MBT) is a workshop designed to help incoming and current students prepare for university-level math and numeracy courses. It aims to help support a smooth transition from high school to university math courses. Students will prepare for university level university-level by working through a comprehensive review of essential concepts in algebra, trigonometry, and functions. Effective study techniques and problem-solving strategies will also be discussed.

Requirements

  • Completed a degree or a major/minor in mathematics.
  • TA experience in a first-year calculus at the University of Toronto is a requirement.
  • Must be available for all sessions: mandatory training on August 17 and 18 from 10 am to 4 pm, and program dates from August 24-27, 10 am to 4 pm.

Nice To Haves

  • Prior experience tutoring in the MBT program.

Responsibilities

  • Participate in a two-day training session prior to the beginning of the MBT Workshop.
  • Facilitate daily tutorial sessions following the MBT workshop methodology for the duration of the MBT Workshop and participate in a daily debrief at the end of each session.
  • Grade quizzes and assist students in solving problems during sessions.
