About The Position

Session physician would provide vasectomies in our Schenectady and/or Newburgh health centers. This role involves direct clinical care, clinical consultation and training, and administrative tasks. The physician will report to the Regional Medical Director and participate in quality management activities, ensuring compliance with PPGNY’s and regulatory agencies’ standards and guidelines. The position requires a commitment to PPGNY’s mission related to bodily autonomy, health equity, and gender and racial justice, with a focus on providing compassionate, non-judgmental, and culturally responsive care.

Requirements

• Requires successful completion of coursework culminating in certification either as Doctor of Medicine or Doctor of Osteopathy and active status for certification by the American Board of Urology or the American Board of Family Medicine.
• Must be licensed to practice in New York State.
• Minimum of 2-3 years’ experience with vasectomy provision.
• Requires basic computer/EMR proficiency.
• Current NYS Physician License and Registration.
• Current BLS certification.
• Ability to remain focused and calm in stressful situations.
• Superior oral and written communication skills.
• Ability to work independently as well as collaboratively with other members of the health care team.
• Willingness to function as a role model.
• Strong knowledge of vasectomy care and evaluation.
• Thorough knowledge of surgical complications.
• Demonstrated ability to manage health-related emergency conditions including independent decision making.
• Ability to exercise discretion in the handling of confidential information.
• Ability to demonstrate and document evidence-based clinical judgment.
• Proof of immunization or immunity to certain communicable diseases (including influenza during the flu season and Covid-19) and testing for tuberculosis.

Responsibilities

• Provides vasectomies under local anesthesia.
• Provides clinical consultation to advance practice physicians.
• Participates in Center chart audit procedures and reviews laboratory and diagnostic reports as appropriate.
• Reports to the Regional Medical Director on all medical complications and other matters as needed.
• Participates in PPGNY’s quality management activities, including Debriefings and Root Cause Analyses, as required.
• Ensures compliance with PPGNY’s and regulatory agencies’ standards and guidelines.
• Completes all responsibilities according to established protocols, policies and standard practices in the areas of customer service, ADA and regulatory compliance programs such as HIPAA.
