This role is responsible for maintaining, repairing, and controlling the configuration of hydraulically-powered friction stir welding and friction pull plug welding machines. The technician will develop an in-depth understanding of the equipment, determine the root cause of failures, accomplish repairs, and identify intermediate solutions when permanent repairs can't be immediately accomplished. Documentation of problems, investigative techniques, corrective actions, and repair results is required, along with communication to co-workers, company, and customer personnel. The role also involves developing lists of spare parts, arranging for their procurement, and obtaining replacement parts when used. Additionally, the technician will be responsible for training other personnel to operate these machines and for planning and executing projects on these machines.

Requirements

High School diploma or General Equivalency Diploma (GED) or equivalent; at least 15 years of experience and continuing education, or an Associate's Degree or equivalent and at least 10 years of experience.
Must be a US Citizen and have a STAR ID.
Methodical planning and execution of maintenance and troubleshooting operations.
Experience with control systems, hydraulics and electromechanical systems.
Prior experience operating and maintaining MTS Systems Corporation/PaR/I-STIR friction stir welding equipment or MTS Systems Corporation multi-axis servohydraulic control systems.
Prior experience with friction stir welding process and/or manufacturing development.
Ability to provide clear, concise, accurate and timely communication, both verbally and in writing (100%).
Ability to interact professionally with co-workers, management, and client (100%).
Ability to work at a computer for long periods of time (100%).
Requires sitting for extended periods of time in meetings with peers, management, and with our client at NASA facilities to discuss technical issues (10%).
Requires sitting for extended periods of time at a desk to write reports and perform engineering tasks (80%).
Ability to use stairs or elevators for access between floors and multiple buildings at NASA and our facilities (10%).
Ability to operate a personal computer, a telephone, fax machine, copier, calculator, and other general office equipment (100%).
Normal workday 7:30-4:30, Monday thru Friday.
The ability to work independently with minimal supervision, and to make rational decisions, and to exercise good judgment is essential (100%).
