About The Position

Independence Excavating is seeking a Service Writer to streamline communication and coordination for its equipment teams. The role coordinates light-duty truck maintenance across a region, tracks preventive maintenance and repairs, works with local shops and vendors, and provides technical support for field teams. It also supports maintenance records, warranty repairs, fleet software improvements, vehicle specifications, budgeting, and cost control, with an opportunity to grow into leadership or management.

Requirements

• Strong diagnostic and mechanical skills.
• Basic computer literacy and willingness to learn fleet management software.
• Excellent communication, follow-up, and organizational skills.
• Experience in service writing, vehicle warranty, or auto repair.
• Interest in growing into a leadership or full-time management role.

• Ability to manage priorities and coordinate across sites as a self-starter.
• Strong understanding of fleet operations, preventive maintenance schedules, and service intervals.
• Comfort collaborating with internal departments and external vendors.

Responsibilities

• Act as the regional point of contact for light-duty truck maintenance needs.
• Coordinate and track preventive maintenance and repair schedules across multiple locations in Fleetio.
• Work with local shops and vendors to manage service timelines and costs for the field.
• Review issues and fault codes and respond in a timely manner.
• Approve Auto Integrate work orders.
• Serve as a technical resource for field teams and other technicians.
• Address high-priority breakdowns or fleet issues in the region.
• Assist with tracking maintenance records, warranty repairs, and service bulletins with the GM Platform.
• Help implement and optimize fleet software or systems, such as Fleetio and telematics.
• Collaborate on vehicle specifications and upfit standards.
• Support strategic planning, reporting, and vendor management.
• Support budgeting and cost-control efforts as the role expands.
