About The Position

UPMC Greenville is hiring a Journeyman Service Technician to join its Facilities Team. The full-time role has Monday-through-Friday shifts of 7:00 a.m. to 3:30 p.m., 8:00 a.m. to 4:30 p.m., or 2:30 p.m. to 11:00 p.m. Some travel to UPMC Horizon–Shenango Valley and maintenance outbuildings is required as needed. On-call duty, weekend rotation, off-shift work, and holiday work are required. The final job title—Journeyman 1 or Journeyman 2—will reflect education, experience, and manager discretion at the time of offer. The Service Technician inspects, maintains, troubleshoots, and repairs facility mechanical systems, including air conditioning, refrigeration, and ventilation equipment. The technician interprets blueprints, instruction books, and sketches; performs preventive maintenance; monitors equipment indicators; completes work orders and daily time reporting; follows infection-control procedures; and maintains safe, clean work areas. Journeyman 2 also performs major repairs and component replacements in building systems and maintains, troubleshoots, and documents water treatment systems, including potable-water Legionella control systems. Journeyman 1 requires a high school diploma and a three-year apprenticeship in institutional refrigeration, air conditioning, and ventilation systems. A recognized course in institutional refrigeration and air conditioning may substitute year for year for apprenticeship and experience, or an equivalent such as on-the-job training. Journeyman 2 has the same baseline requirement and also requires an associate degree from an accredited trade school or completion of an associated trade-specific apprentice program. Both levels require working knowledge of plumbing, steam fitting, and sheet metal work. The role may require entering rooms where medication is stored, but contact with medications is not allowed. Appropriate licenses or registration to meet code requirements, as needed, and a valid driver’s license are required.
