About The Position

The Service Technician will be responsible for the repair and maintenance of component cable, category cable, fiber, wireless access points, cameras, access control devices, and other low voltage cabling and devices with or without direct onsite supervision. This role involves installing, servicing, troubleshooting, and maintaining electronic security systems, including access control, video surveillance, intrusion detection, intercom, and visitor management systems. The technician will also be responsible for installing and maintaining access control devices, IP and analog video surveillance systems, and diagnosing hardware, software, network, and communication issues. Additionally, the role includes installing, terminating, testing, and certifying low-voltage cabling, configuring and troubleshooting network-connected security devices, performing preventative maintenance, assisting with software and firmware updates, documenting service activities, maintaining company vehicles and inventory, collaborating with customers and team members, observing safety policies, and participating in after-hours support and on-call rotations. A strong willingness to learn new technologies and continuously develop technical skills is essential.

Requirements

  • Minimum of 4 years of experience in the physical security, low-voltage, IT, networking, electronics, or related technical field preferred.
  • Experience installing, servicing, and troubleshooting security systems including access control, video surveillance, intrusion detection, and intercom systems.
  • Familiarity with manufacturers such as Genetec, Open Options, ACRE, Software House, LenelS2, Avigilon, Milestone, Hanwha, Axis, Verkada, Bosch, DMP, Aiphone, 2N, OpenPath, or similar platforms is preferred.
  • Basic understanding of IP networking, VLANs, switches, TCP/IP communications, and PoE technologies.
  • High school diploma or equivalent required; technical school or industry certifications preferred.
  • Valid driver's license with acceptable driving record.
  • Must be at least 21 years of age to operate company vehicles.
  • Ability to successfully pass a background check and drug screening.
  • Ability to read blueprints, floor plans, wiring diagrams, schematics, and construction documents.
  • Proficient in the use of hand tools, power tools, test equipment, measuring devices, and troubleshooting instruments.
  • Strong troubleshooting and problem-solving skills with the ability to diagnose complex system issues.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills with the ability to communicate professionally with customers and team members.
  • Ability to manage multiple priorities while maintaining attention to detail and quality workmanship.
  • Comfortable working independently and as part of a team.
  • Willing and able to work flexible schedules including nights, weekends, holidays, and overnight travel when required to support customer needs.
  • Ability to safely work at heights utilizing ladders, lifts, scaffolding, and aerial work platforms.
  • Ability to lift and carry equipment weighing up to 50 pounds.

Responsibilities

  • Install, service, troubleshoot, and maintain electronic security systems including access control, video surveillance, intrusion detection, intercom, and visitor management systems.
  • Install, service, and maintain access control devices including card readers, controllers, door contacts, request-to-exit devices, locks, electric strikes, magnetic locks, and other electrified door hardware.
  • Install, service, and maintain IP and analog video surveillance systems including fixed, panoramic, PTZ, thermal, and specialty cameras.
  • Diagnose and resolve hardware, software, network, and communication issues affecting security systems.
  • Install, terminate, test, and certify low-voltage cabling including Cat5e, Cat6, composite, fiber optic, and associated pathway systems.
  • Configure, troubleshoot, and support network-connected security devices including switches, PoE equipment, servers, and workstations.
  • Perform preventative maintenance inspections and system health assessments.
  • Assist with software upgrades, firmware updates, database maintenance, and system migrations.
  • Document service activities, troubleshooting steps, and corrective actions through service management platforms.
  • Maintain company-owned vehicles, tools, equipment, and inventory.
  • Work collaboratively with customers, project managers, programmers, engineers, and fellow technicians to deliver high-quality service.
  • Observe all company safety policies, industry standards, and best practices.
  • Participate in after-hours support, emergency service calls, and on-call rotations as required.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.
  • Demonstrate a strong willingness to learn new technologies and continuously develop technical skills.
