About The Position

This position is for Second Shift, 1:00 pm to 11:00 pm. The purpose of this position is to plan, perform, and/or supervise the construction and/or maintenance of overhead and/or underground distribution lines. The role requires knowledge in and responsibility for more technical areas such as voltage recorders, electronic devices, and station equipment, and any technology that will help system reliability. Safety shall not be compromised for the purpose of this position.

Requirements

High school diploma, GED, or equivalency required.
Must be a First Class Line Technician.
Valid Class A Florida Commercial Driver License or must have knowledge and skills to obtain said license within 90 days of employment.
Ability to operate a motor vehicle with automatic or manual transmission.
Ability to communicate on a two-way radio system.
Ability to perform job tasks involving bending, stooping, climbing, and lifting heavy objects.
Sufficient hearing and vision to perform all job tasks.
Ability to stand for prolonged periods.
Manual dexterity and mechanical ability to use hand tools such as pliers, screwdrivers, wrenches, etc.
Ability to climb poles with pole climbers.
Must be able to work Second Shift, 1:00 pm to 11:00 pm.

Nice To Haves

Knowledge and skills to obtain a Class A Florida Commercial Driver License within 90 days of employment.

Responsibilities

Plan, perform, and/or supervise construction and/or maintenance of overhead and/or underground distribution lines.
Possess knowledge in and be responsible for technical areas such as voltage recorders, electronic devices, and station equipment.
Utilize technology to enhance system reliability.
Appraise the performance of assigned personnel and review appraisals with the Operations Supervisor.
Ensure personnel under supervision are thoroughly trained.
Participate in safety programs, promote safe working habits, and encourage the use of protective equipment.
Train personnel on the job concerning safety.
Plan a daily work schedule to effectively utilize employees, materials, and transportation, allowing for changes due to emergencies.
Determine the requirement of tools, equipment, and materials needed for all types of jobs.
Determine the need for repair of equipment and replacement of tools, and submit requisitions for supplies and work equipment.
Direct the activities of the crew to ensure responsibilities, authorities, and relationships are understood, accepted, and performed.
Ensure all personnel are informed whether the conductor is energized or de-energized and follow best safety practices.
Ensure assigned truck, tools, and working equipment are properly used and kept in good working condition.
Direct compliance with all rules, regulations, and safe practices in the operation of motor vehicles.
Direct the loading and hauling of materials and poles.
Know the proper and safe practices when setting poles for digging holes.
Receive clearance to energize or de-energize lines and determine compliance with all safety precautions.
Understand hazards such as falls, electric shock, electric flash, falling objects, and traffic, and be familiar with safety equipment.
Become trained and certified to perform first aid, pole top rescue, and CPR.
Retire lines from service when directed, submitting reports of materials retired and time reports.
Submit construction material tickets, line sketches, or map references for engineers when required.
Remain constantly alert and investigate and make required repairs on line clearance and other discrepancies of transmission and distribution, secondary and service line to ensure they meet RUS code requirements.
Comply with all traffic laws, Cooperative safety rules and regulations, and safe practices while operating the vehicle.
Inspect all protective and safety equipment and report any inadequacy.
Immediately report all accidents or sicknesses of crew personnel.
Communicate on two-way radio as necessary, following FCC rules and company procedures.
Ensure an adequate supply of safety equipment and maintenance material is maintained and kept in good condition on the assigned vehicle.
Actively participate in on-the-job training and safety programs.
Advise Member Services Department of any known need for promotional or public relations services.
Keep informed of all Cooperative policies and procedures and inform consumers and helpers of these policies and procedures.
Install or change line transformers, line and station oil circuit reclosers, and related equipment.
Install and connect voltage regulators, change taps, and regulate voltage on transformers.
Perform substation installation and required work for substation maintenance as directed.
Answer trouble calls promptly.
Remain in a working posture to answer emergency outage calls rapidly unless otherwise directed.
Cut right-of-way as required or directed.
Construct, remove, or move poles, conductors, and equipment.
Observe the performance of assigned personnel to ensure effective work procedures and safe practices.
Assume obligation for coaching helpers and prepare to advise supervisor during performance appraisals.
Connect and disconnect meters as required or directed.
Perform underground locating periodically.
Perform such other duties as required or directed.
