About The Position

The Service Technician is responsible for inspecting, testing, and maintaining portable fire extinguishers. This role involves interacting with customers, performing routine inspections and tests, troubleshooting issues, ensuring compliance with regulations, documenting all work, and communicating effectively with clients. The technician will diagnose and resolve problems with portable fire extinguishers brought into the shop, ensuring they meet all relevant fire codes, regulations, and safety standards. Accurate record-keeping and reporting are essential components of this position.

Requirements

  • High school diploma or equivalent
  • Relevant experience in inspecting and maintaining portable fire extinguishers.
  • Knowledge of local fire codes, regulations, and safety standards.
  • Strong problem-solving and troubleshooting skills.
  • Strong attention to detail and ability to follow procedures accurately
  • Excellent problem-solving skills to troubleshoot technical issues
  • Ability to work independently as well as part of a team
  • Good communication skills to interact with clients professionally and effectively
  • Able to lift heavy equipment (up to 50 lbs.)
  • Manual dexterity to work with small parts
  • Physical fitness and the ability to work in various environments, including confined spaces and heights.

Nice To Haves

  • Additional technical certifications or training in portable fire extinguishers is preferred.
  • Previous experience servicing and maintaining HVAC equipment/systems, small engine repair, firefighting equipment, work as a mechanic, electrician, or previous experience with hydraulics.
  • Familiarity with portable fire extinguisher equipment is a plus, but we will train!

Responsibilities

  • Wait on any incoming portable fire extinguisher customers.
  • Conduct routine inspections and tests of portable fire extinguishers to ensure proper functioning.
  • Identify and rectify any issues or malfunctions promptly.
  • Diagnose and troubleshoot problems in all portable fire extinguishers brought into the shop.
  • Ensure all portable fire extinguishers comply with relevant fire codes, regulations, and safety standards.
  • Maintain accurate records of inspections, tests, and repairs.
  • Generate reports as needed for clients, authorities, or internal use.
  • Communicate effectively with clients to explain the status of their portable fire extinguishers, address concerns, and provide recommendations for improvements.
