What You'll Do as a Service Technician III: This senior/journeyman-level role is for skilled technicians qualified to work independently on full maintenance, diagnostics, and service across a broad variety of commercial air-conditioning and HVAC equipment. You'll take lead on complex calls while maintaining high standards of safety, documentation, and customer service. Key responsibilities include:

Requirements

  • 5+ years of progressive hands-on experience in commercial HVAC service, repair, and maintenance.
  • EPA Section 608 certification (Universal strongly preferred).
  • Strong diagnostic and troubleshooting skills across wet-side (hydronic/chilled/hot water) and dry-side (air-side) commercial HVAC systems, including controls/DDC and advanced equipment.
  • Proficiency with diagnostic tools, gauges, recovery machines, multimeters, and specialized HVAC test equipment.
  • Proven ability to work independently with minimal supervision while delivering high-quality, safe, and efficient results.
  • Excellent customer-service, communication, and problem-solving skills; leadership mindset to mentor juniors and coordinate with teams.
  • Strong commitment to safety, reliability, quality workmanship, and a positive attitude.
  • Ability to work in physically demanding conditions: lift up to 50 lbs, frequent bending/lifting, standing/walking on uneven terrain or in confined spaces, safely climbing ladders/scaffolding, and exposure to weather/elements.
  • Valid driver's license and clean driving record required; additional certifications (NATE, specific manufacturer training, OSHA) a plus.

Responsibilities

  • Independently diagnosing, troubleshooting, repairing, and maintaining complex commercial HVAC systems (rooftop units, split systems, chillers, boilers, VAV boxes, air handlers, central plants, controls/DDC, and large-tonnage equipment).
  • Performing advanced repairs including major component replacements (compressors, evaporators, condensers, controls, valves, pumps), refrigerant handling/recovery/recharge, system balancing, and startup/commissioning.
  • Conducting thorough preventative maintenance, system performance testing, energy-efficiency assessments, and retrofits/upgrades as needed.
  • Leading service calls from start to finish: assessing issues on-site, communicating clearly with customers about problems and solutions, coordinating parts/materials, and ensuring timely resolution.
  • Ensuring all work complies with codes, regulations, manufacturer specifications, and Modigent safety/quality standards.
  • Documenting service activities in detail (work orders, reports, as-builts, photos), maintaining accurate records, and providing recommendations for preventative programs or system improvements.
  • Mentoring and guiding Service Technician I and II team members—demonstrating techniques, sharing best practices, and supporting their development on the job.
  • Keeping tools, vehicles, and work areas organized, clean, and compliant with safety protocols.
