About The Position

As a Service Technician II, you'll take on increased independence in commercial HVAC service, handling routine to moderately complex maintenance, diagnostics, repairs, and troubleshooting on a variety of systems in office buildings, schools, hospitals, retail spaces, and industrial facilities. Building on foundational skills, you'll perform preventive maintenance, component replacements, refrigerant handling, and basic system startups with growing confidence, while assisting senior technicians on advanced calls and beginning to mentor entry-level team members. Requirements

  • 2–5 years of hands-on commercial HVAC service, repair, and maintenance experience; demonstrated ability to work independently on routine to moderately complex calls.
  • High school diploma or GED required; trade school, vocational training, apprenticeship, or equivalent preferred.
  • EPA Section 608 certification (Type II or Universal required); NATE certification, manufacturer training, OSHA 10/30-hour, or other relevant credentials a plus (company support for advancement).
  • Ability to regularly lift and carry up to 50 lbs, climb ladders/scaffolding/stairs, work in confined spaces or at heights, bend/kneel/crouch, reach overhead, and use diagnostic tools/equipment for extended periods; frequent standing, walking, manual dexterity, and physical stamina required.
  • Solid diagnostic/troubleshooting on commercial HVAC equipment (RTUs, splits, air handlers, basic controls).
  • Refrigerant handling/recovery/recharge (EPA-compliant), component replacement, preventive maintenance.
  • Proficiency with gauges, recovery machines, multimeters, and basic HVAC test equipment.
  • Customer communication, problem-solving, and documentation/reporting skills.
  • Team collaboration, safety awareness, and eagerness to learn advanced systems/mentoring.

Responsibilities

  • Perform preventive maintenance, inspections, cleaning, lubrication, filter/belt changes, and minor adjustments on commercial HVAC equipment (rooftop units, split systems, air handlers, fans, basic controls, VAV boxes).
  • Independently diagnose and repair common issues, including refrigerant leaks, electrical components (contactors, capacitors, thermostats), airflow problems, and basic hydronic systems, with guidance on more complex cases.
  • Handle refrigerant recovery, recycling, recharging, and leak detection in compliance with EPA regulations.
  • Conduct system performance checks, basic balancing, and adjustments to optimize efficiency and comfort.
  • Lead standard service calls: assess problems on-site, communicate with customers about issues/solutions/timelines, coordinate parts, execute repairs, and follow up for satisfaction.
  • Document all work accurately (work orders, service reports, photos, recommendations) and maintain records for billing, warranty, and quality tracking.
  • Assist senior technicians (Level III+) on advanced repairs, startups, or large equipment; begin mentoring Level I technicians by demonstrating techniques and safety practices.
  • Maintain clean, organized vehicles, tools, and work areas; adhere to all safety protocols, PPE usage, and company standards.
