About The Position

The Service Shop Foreman is responsible for overseeing the daily operations of the service department, ensuring high-quality repairs, managing technicians, and maintaining compliance with regulations and manufacturer policies. This role involves recruitment, training, performance management, customer satisfaction, and maintaining a safe and efficient work environment.

Requirements

  • Two to four years of related experience or training, or an equivalent combination of education and experience.
  • Proficiency in MS Outlook, Excel, and Word.
  • An excellent understanding of work optimization techniques.
  • Good knowledge of applicable safety regulations and procedures.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
  • Strong leadership abilities.
  • Good time management and problem-solving skills.
  • A willingness to work long hours and overtime, if needed.
  • Ability to read, analyze and interpret general business periodicals, professional journals, technical procedures, or governmental regulations.
  • Ability to define problems, collect data, establish facts and draw valid conclusions.

Responsibilities

  • Recruit, hire, and motivate qualified service technicians.
  • Assist technicians in developing their skills and provide technical support.
  • Understand and comply with federal, state, and local regulations (e.g., hazardous waste disposal, OSHA Right-to-Know).
  • Ensure compliance with manufacturer warranty and policy procedures.
  • Ensure all department employees receive appropriate manufacturer training.
  • Conduct regular performance reviews for technicians.
  • Assign repair orders equally and fairly.
  • Execute the service SOP (Standard Operating Procedures) at all times.
  • Dispatch repair orders in AutoPoint and monitor technician recommendation guidelines.
  • Train, execute, and hold staff accountable for AutoPoint execution.
  • Ensure repairs are charged out correctly.
  • Monitor the progress of each repair order throughout the day.
  • Maintain high-quality service repairs and minimize comebacks.
  • Conduct periodic spot checks of completed jobs for thoroughness and quality.
  • Road test vehicles to quality-check work performed.
  • Account for all documents, ensuring none are missing and all are processed correctly.
  • Establish and maintain a customer follow-up program to confirm satisfaction.
  • Handle all customer complaints within 24 hours, informing other managers as appropriate.
  • Manage department performance using tools like the daily operating control (DOC), efficiency and productivity control, comeback reports, warranty reports, telephone surveys, and monthly forecasts.
  • Monitor technicians' daily productivity reports and corresponding payroll records.
  • Monitor shop conditions, including cleanliness, safety, and the state of shop equipment.
  • Report problems to the service manager or dealer.
  • Ensure the proper care, storage, and inventory of special tools.
  • Keep abreast of new equipment and tools available and recommend purchases.
  • Attend manager's meetings as requested.
