About The Position
As a Service Retrofit Start Up Technician I, you'll begin your career in commercial HVAC retrofit and system startup by assisting experienced technicians with basic installations, repairs, and commissioning of equipment in office buildings, hospitals, schools, retail spaces, and industrial facilities. Requirements
- 1–3 years in construction, labor, mechanical, facilities maintenance, or related field; no prior HVAC/startup experience required—strong mechanical aptitude, positive attitude, work ethic, and eagerness to learn essential.
- High school diploma or GED required.
- Valid driver's license and clean driving record required.
- Basic mechanical aptitude and tool familiarity (multimeter, gauges, hand tools, brazing basics).
- Safety awareness, attention to detail, and willingness to follow instructions and learn quickly.
- Customer service orientation, clear communication, and teamwork.
- Basic documentation (work orders, photos, notes) and smartphone/tablet proficiency for digital reporting.
- Ability to regularly lift and carry up to 50 lbs, climb ladders/scaffolding/stairs, work in confined spaces or at heights, bend/kneel/crouch, reach overhead, and use tools/equipment for extended periods; frequent standing, walking, manual dexterity, and physical stamina required.
- Must strictly adhere to OSHA regulations, EPA protocols, conduct hazard identification, and wear required personal protective equipment (PPE) such as hard hats, safety glasses, gloves, harnesses, and steel-toed boots at all times—safety is our top priority and non-negotiable.
- Ability to pass background/drug screening and maintain clean driving record.
Nice To Haves
- Trade school, vocational training, or HVAC certificate a plus (will be supported through company-sponsored programs).
- EPA Section 608 certification (or willingness to obtain within first 6–12 months) preferred.
- OSHA 10-hour certification encouraged (company support provided).
Responsibilities
- Assist senior technicians with basic installations, repairs, and startup activities on DX split systems, above-ceiling unit replacements, rooftop replacements, and related HVAC equipment.
- Support brazing copper lines, component replacement, system charging, and basic functional testing under direct supervision.
- Perform general service/retrofit call support: prepare tools/parts, document findings, take photos, and complete basic work order entries.
- Provide accurate information from each service call to the dispatcher before leaving the job site; document work by completing paperwork and maintaining records.
- Help maintain clean, organized work areas, vehicles, and tools; load/unload equipment and materials as needed.
- Participate fully in daily safety briefings, job hazard analyses, toolbox talks, and follow all safety protocols and PPE requirements.
- Actively learn commercial HVAC systems, startup procedures, refrigerant handling, and best practices through on-the-job training, ride-alongs, and assigned coursework.
- Communicate professionally with customers and team members, reporting observations and asking questions to build knowledge.
