Requirements

  • Valid Driver’s License
  • Successful completion of pre-employment background checks and drug screening
  • Minimum 3 years of combined heavy-duty diesel mechanic experience and supervisory or service advising experience
  • Deep understanding of Class 7 and 8 heavy-duty trucks, diesel engines, and related diagnostic and repair processes

Responsibilities

  • Leads an efficient and profitable service department through team development, training, productive staffing, customer retention, cost controls, achievement of objectives, and maintenance of all service records.
  • Ensures that the daily inventory of technician time is consistently sold to service customers.
  • Supports and practices Bergey’s Behaviors.
  • Perform weekly payroll for the department and make all required employee time changes
  • Forecast goals and objectives for the department and strive to meet them
  • Hire, train, motivate, counsel, and monitor the performance of all service department staff
  • Complete yearly performance reviews on all employees
  • Prepare and administer an annual operating budget for the service department
  • Maintain reporting systems required by general management and the factory
  • Attend manager meetings
  • Monitor and control department performance using reports, tracking systems, and surveys
  • Strive for harmony and teamwork within the department and across all departments
  • Develop and implement a marketing plan to promote new and repeat business
  • Ensure compliance with federal, state, and local regulations (e.g., OSHA, hazardous waste disposal)
  • Understand and enforce manufacturer warranty and policy procedures
  • Account for all documents; ensure accuracy and completeness
  • Hold monthly department and safety meetings; ensure proper documentation
  • Direct and schedule activities of all department employees
  • Facilitate technical training and coordinate outside training as needed
  • Maintain appropriate staffing levels for optimal financial performance
  • Keep upper management informed of safety, operational, or compliance concerns
  • Monitor technician productivity reports and payroll records
  • Follow up on parts orders with the parts manager
  • Review and initial repair orders prior to warranty submission
  • Handle customer complaints promptly per dealership guidelines
  • Maintain follow-up with customers to ensure satisfaction
