About The Position

The Service Counter Clerk at Hugo's Family Marketplace is responsible for providing exceptional customer service by efficiently handling transactions, addressing customer inquiries, and ensuring a positive shopping experience. This role involves maintaining the service counter's operations, processing returns and exchanges, and upholding store policies to enhance customer satisfaction. Must be 18 + years or older to apply.

Requirements

  • High school diploma or GED
  • No prior work experience required
  • Willingness to learn and follow procedures
  • Ability to interact politely with customers
  • Ability to greet customers and provide excellent service
  • Capability to process returns, exchanges, and refunds efficiently
  • Skill in answering customer questions and addressing complaints
  • Proficiency in operating POS systems
  • Ability to verify receipts, documentation, or identification when required
  • Commitment to maintaining cleanliness and following store policies
  • Effective communication skills

Nice To Haves

  • Some college coursework or related experience
  • 1–2 years in retail, cashier, or customer service roles
  • Experience handling cash, POS systems, or returns

Responsibilities

  • Greet customers warmly and provide assistance with their inquiries and needs.
  • Process returns, exchanges, and refunds accurately and efficiently.
  • Answer customer questions and provide information about products and services.
  • Handle customer complaints professionally and work towards resolving issues.
  • Assist with special orders, rain checks, or store credits as needed.
  • Operate POS systems to process transactions and verify receipts, documentation, or identification when required.
  • Maintain the cleanliness and organization of the service counter area.
  • Follow store policies and procedures to ensure compliance and consistency.
  • Communicate effectively with team members and management to facilitate smooth operations.
