About The Position

The primary role of a Server is to provide members, guests, and golfers of Sycamore Golf Club with prompt, friendly, and attentive food and beverage service while maintaining the Club’s standard of quality and hospitality. A Server is responsible for their assigned section, the accurate entry and handling of all orders and payments, and the responsible service of alcohol in accordance with New York State law and Club policy. A Server may be assigned to the restaurant, patio, or private events.

Requirements

  • Must be at least 18 years of age to serve alcohol under New York State law.
  • Completion of a New York State Alcohol Training Awareness Program (ATAP) course, or willingness to complete one within 30 days of hire.
  • Ability to deal with people sensitively, courteously, and honestly.
  • Ability to work quickly and stay organized during busy periods, and to establish priorities.
  • Ability to work flexible hours, including evenings, weekends, and holidays, based on the golf season and event schedule.
  • Ability to cultivate effective working relationships with coworkers, members, and guests.
  • Stamina—Able to push, pull, lift or carry objects up to fifty pounds, including loaded trays, bus tubs, and banquet tables. Frequently walk, stand, bend, and reach for prolonged periods of time.
  • Able to read fine print on identification, menus, and written documents and use visual discrimination in reading computer screens, including color discrimination. Distinguish normal sounds with background noise, as in a busy dining room or event setting. Able to speak clearly and make self-understood while also understanding others using the English language.
  • Must be able to remember multiple orders and table needs at once over long periods of time with frequent interruptions.
  • Must be able to make sound judgments about responsible alcohol service.
  • Must be able to continue work started by another individual.
  • Ability to operate POS system, credit card terminal, coffee and beverage equipment, and serving trays.
  • Ability to calculate figures, make change, and apply concepts of basic math.
  • Ability to read and interpret documents such as safety rules, menus, operating instructions, and Club policies.

  • Prior restaurant or banquet serving experience preferred.

Responsibilities

  • Greet guests promptly at their table and provide courteous, attentive service throughout their visit.
  • Present menus, explain menu items and daily specials, and answer questions about ingredients and preparation.
  • Take food and beverage orders accurately and enter them into the POS system, including any allergy or special requests.
  • Deliver food and beverages to tables promptly and check back to ensure guest satisfaction.
  • Check valid identification before serving alcohol, and refuse service to anyone under 21 or visibly intoxicated.
  • Accurately handle cash, credit card, and member charge transactions, and settle all checks at the end of each shift.
  • Clear, clean, and reset tables, and keep the dining room, patio, and service stations clean and stocked.
  • Complete the opening, closing, or side work checklist depending on the shift worked.
  • Set up, serve, and break down tournaments, outings, weddings, banquets, and other private events.
  • Work as a team with the kitchen, bar, and host staff to keep service running smoothly.
  • Report any guest complaints, incidents, or employee issues to management.
  • Ensure Club policies are being followed and report any issues to management.
