About The Position

The Server is responsible for approaching all encounters with guests and employees in a friendly, service-oriented manner. They must maintain regular attendance as required by scheduling, which will vary according to the needs of the hotel. Maintaining high standards of personal appearance and grooming, as defined in the hotel handbook, is essential when working. The Server must comply at all times with New Castle standards and regulations to encourage safe and efficient hotel operations. This role involves preparing tables for meals, performing food preparation duties, completing sidework and cleaning duties, and having full knowledge of the menu. Key functions include greeting guests, presenting menus, answering questions, making recommendations, describing menu items and their preparation, describing and recommending wines, and accurately completing daily cash out reports.

Requirements

  • At least 1 year of progressive experience in food & beverage.
  • SERV Safe & TABC Certificate or other appropriate alcohol service training preferred.
  • High School diploma or equivalent preferred.
  • Ability to bend, stretch, twist or reach with your body and arms.
  • Ability to work under variable temperatures and noise levels.
  • Near Vision - The ability to see details at close range.
  • Ability to stand for long periods of time without sitting or leaning.
  • Ability to walk long distances.
  • Oral and Written Comprehension and Expression - Must be able to convey & understand information and ideas in English.
  • Must be able to evaluate and select among alternative courses of action quickly and accurately.
  • Must be effective in handling problems in the workplace, including anticipating, preventing, identifying, and solving problems as necessary.

  • Knowledge of F&B procedures and serving standards.
  • Knowledge of Health Department rules and regulations.
  • Knowledge of Liquor laws and regulations.

Responsibilities

  • Maintain regular attendance, as required by scheduling which will vary according to the needs of the hotel.
  • Maintain high standards of personal appearance and grooming, as defined in the hotel handbook, when working.
  • Comply at all times with New Castle standards and regulations to encourage safe and efficient hotel operations.
  • Prepare tables for meals, including setting up items such as linens, silverware, and glassware.
  • Perform food preparation duties such as preparing salads, appetizers, and cold dishes, portioning desserts, and brewing coffee.
  • Complete all sidework and cleaning duties as described in the SOPs.
  • Have full knowledge of entire menu, as well as daily specials, desserts, etc.
  • Greet guests, inform of daily specials.
  • Present menus to guests and answer questions about menu items, making recommendations upon request.
  • Explain how various menu items are prepared, describing ingredients and cooking methods.
  • Describe and recommend wines to customers.
  • Bring wine selections to tables with appropriate glasses, and pour the wines for customers.
  • Write guest food orders on order slips, memorize orders, and enter into computer for transmittal for kitchen staff.
  • Check with customers to ensure that they are enjoying their meals and take action to correct any problems.
  • Serve food or beverages to patrons, and prepare or serve specialty dishes at tables as required.
  • Prepare checks that itemize and total meal costs and sales taxes.
  • Remove dishes and glasses from tables or counters, and take them to kitchen for cleaning.
  • Prepare hot, cold, and mixed drinks for patrons, and chill bottles of wine.
  • Respond to guest complaints in a timely manner.
  • Keep immediate supervisor fully informed of all problems or matters requiring his or her attention.
  • Participate in department meetings.
  • Ensure compliance with all local liquor laws, and health & sanitation regulations.
  • Ensure that all side work is completed before leaving property.
  • Ensure that all restock and cleaning is performed at close of shift.
  • Be up to date on all guest services, promotions and events in the Hotel.
  • Accurately complete daily cash out report.
  • Other duties as required.
  • Participate in hotel and department meetings as requested.

  • PTO: Accrual begins on your first day of employment and becomes available for use after completing your 90-day introductory period. PTO accrues at a rate of 0.0385 hours per hour worked, up to a maximum of 80 hours (10 days) per year.
  • Sick Time: After completing the 90-day introductory period, full-time employees accrue sick time at 1 hour for every 30 hours worked, up to a maximum of 40 hours.
  • FMLA: Available to full-time employees who meet federal eligibility requirements.
  • Jury Duty: Full-time employees who have completed their introductory period will receive the difference between their regular rate of pay and jury duty pay, based on their normal scheduled hours - up to 8 hours per day and 40 hours per week for each day of jury service.
