About The Position

The Server Operations Engineer II will be responsible for technical operations and support, focusing on troubleshooting server and network hardware, managing the lifecycle of circuit orders, and facilitating physical layer installations. This role involves direct execution or management of local vendor technicians for various troubleshooting tasks, ongoing support of the production environment, and coordination with vendors and operations teams. The position also requires maintaining and improving inventory databases for servers, circuits, and spares, developing strategies for spare levels, and initiating replenishment requests. Documentation, tracking, and vendor support are key aspects, including acting as an initial point of contact for vendor queries, managing shipments, and scheduling onsite technicians. Regular audits of inventory are also a part of the responsibilities.

Requirements

  • 2+ years of experience in data center or enterprise IT infrastructure
  • Experience working within IT best practices (ITIL) and equipment lifecycle processes
  • Experience executing detailed MOPs and following technical documentation
  • Knowledge of relevant technologies, including fiber optics, DWDM/CWDM devices, and network interface types (form factors and protocols)
  • Strong troubleshooting skills across technical, logistical, and process domains
  • Experience coordinating with field technicians, engineers, contractors, and vendors, including Telecom ISP and colocation providers
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to provide clear remote technical guidance
  • Basic command-line proficiency in Linux/Unix and switch OS CLI
  • Ability to work independently with minimal supervision

  • Experience coordinating or leading junior field technicians, engineers, contractors, and/or vendors in a telecommunications environment

Responsibilities

  • Troubleshoot server and network hardware, including fiber/optic cables, optics, and hardware components
  • Manage the lifecycle of circuit move, add, change, and disconnection (MACD) orders
  • Directly execute or manage local vendor technicians for server, circuit, and maintenance troubleshooting
  • Facilitate physical layer installation of server and network cabling according to cabling matrices
  • Perform physical server and circuit troubleshooting and fault analysis
  • Provide ongoing support of the production environment and coordinate with vendors, system owners, and operations teams to resolve issues
  • Coordinate and track requests/orders and provide weekly reporting
  • Document all implementations and changes
  • Participate in an on-call rotation for ad-hoc troubleshooting across internal teams and external providers
  • Support regional maintenance activities during business hours as needed
  • Maintain and improve: Server inventory database, Circuit inventory database, Spares inventory database
  • Develop a plan to maintain appropriate spare levels at each site/warehouse
  • Trigger replenishment requests when inventory reaches defined thresholds
  • Initiate site and vendor remote hands requests to perform audits when required
  • Update internal documentation as requested
  • Perform ad-hoc operational tasks
  • Maintain a ticketing system (JIRA) to track all requests and activities
  • Work with SCM, equipment vendors, and data centers to manage delivery schedules and time windows
  • Support ongoing process improvement initiatives
  • Act as the initial point of contact (POC) for vendor queries related to interconnection and troubleshooting
  • Create and track colocation inbound/outbound shipments
  • Maintain internal documentation for internet provider contacts and circuit details
  • Schedule onsite technicians and manage site access requests for ad-hoc and scheduled activities
  • Submit vendor remote hands requests to support onsite physical work
  • Perform regular audits of server, circuit, and spares inventory
