About The Position

SSI is looking for a Server Engineer to join our team in Chantilly, VA! This role requires a strong background in IT with a focus on Server/Network, a willingness to work onsite daily, and a current Secret Clearance. The position involves providing comprehensive server installation support, including routine and emergency services, across all facilities. Key responsibilities include performing server refreshes, coordinating installations to minimize disruptions, and creating detailed technical documentation. The role also encompasses software and operating system deployments, SQL Server support, data center support, server upgrades, hardware and software installation, configuration, and database migration. Additionally, the Server Engineer will handle operating system configuration, security fixes, application installations and upgrades (including public-facing web applications), CCD Security Patches, and Oracle database changes. Special projects and surge support deployment are also part of the role, requiring hands-on experience and guidance to systems engineers in areas such as Windows Server, Oracle OEL, Linux, and Database Support. The position also involves providing technical expertise in managing servers connected to public and private networks, troubleshooting issues collaboratively, and assisting in the design and configuration of network installations from the ground up, including site decommissioning and moves. Creating, reviewing, and updating Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs) is also a key duty. This role may involve leading functional teams or projects, requiring a depth and breadth of expertise, and performing other assigned tasks.

Requirements

  • 5+ years of experience in Information Technology with a focus on Server/Network and other scripting SME.
  • Must have a current Secret Clearance.
  • One or more IT industry certifications.
  • Hands on experience with VMWare, vSphere.
  • Hands on experience with server installations including Windows Server, SQL Server, Oracle OEL, Linux and Database Support.
  • Proficiency with Microsoft 365 Productivity applications.
  • Database configuration and administration – Microsoft SQL Server.
  • Storage appliance configuration and migration.
  • Must be able to travel at least 25%.
  • Must be able to physically lift equipment weight up to 50 lbs.
  • Must be able to perform installation work in constrained spaces like under work desks, in small cubicles, and counter window environments.
  • Must be able to remain in stationary position for up to 50% of the time.
  • Must be able to work in an office environment and be able to freely move within this space to utilize office equipment as well as interface with co-workers and customer.
  • Must be able to effectively use IT peripherals such as laptop, desktop, printer, fax machine, etc.
  • Must be able to review; decipher and understand program manuals; software/hardware manuals; training manuals; etc.

Responsibilities

  • Provide server installation support services for all facilities.
  • Perform refresh of servers (CONUS), provide a plan and update it as needed.
  • Provide non-routine (e.g., emergency) server installation support services.
  • Coordinate with the applicable points-of-contact to arrange server installations and minimize disruptions to on-going activities.
  • Coordinate logistics with the other functional elements of this contract (e.g., shipping and receiving, deployment, training, etc.).
  • Create accurate technical documents for all server installation activities.
  • Perform server installations and configuration.
  • Perform software application and operating system deployments.
  • Provide SQL Server support.
  • Provide Data Center support.
  • Perform server upgrades (server only swap) with full hardware and software installation and configuration.
  • Perform server installation (all hardware components) with full hardware and software installation and configuration and migration of database to new hardware.
  • Perform new deployment of hardware, software and template database (ex. Apia, Dili, Juba).
  • Ensure that systems are configured per technical specifications contained in approved technical documentation after installation and deployment.
  • Perform operating system configuration and including security fixes.
  • Perform software application installations and upgrades for all existing Applications including applications in the DMZ (public facing applications Web-based).
  • Perform CCD Security Patches, including PO&AM remediation fixes.
  • Perform One-off Application and security deployments.
  • Perform Oracle database changes (table and file rec length changes, alt-file and key re-sequences for faster data access, new table/file adds).
  • Provide hands-on experience and guidance to highly technical systems engineers.
  • Perform server installation including Windows Server, Oracle OEL, Linux and Database Support.
  • Provide technical expertise in the management of servers that connect to a public and/or private network such as Internet protocol (IP) networks, wide area networks (WANs), switches, routers (CISCO).
  • Troubleshoot issues by collaborating with all parties.
  • Provide Technical expertise and guidance to Servers, SA team, trouble shoot complex issues.
  • Assist design of network installation configuration from ground-up in new sites.
  • Support decommissioning of a site.
  • Assist in moves.
  • Support computer systems and peripherals.
  • Create, review, and update SOPs.
