About The Position

The Sergeant works at the North Central Correctional Complex in Marion, Ohio, supervising staff and overseeing the care, custody, and security of inmates. The role includes applying information in inmate records to support health, safety, and facility security, maintaining records and reports, and promoting positive social skills through appropriate role modeling and intervention. The position is full-time with a variable schedule and pays $25.26 per hour.

Requirements

High school diploma or equivalent (GED).
One year of correctional experience.
Valid Ohio driver's license with an acceptable driving record, unless waived by management.
Successfully complete annual in-service training requirements.

Responsibilities

Supervise, protect, instruct, train, counsel, and evaluate assigned employees.
Oversee the care, custody, and adherence to rules and regulations of inmates assigned to a specific work area.
Supervise and direct searches for contraband and provide security.
Supervise and provide custody and security of inmates, including observing inmates and those assigned to work duty.
Read, review, and properly apply information in inmate records related to inmate health and safety and facility security; provide appropriate information to other personnel.
Supervise the preparation and maintenance of records, forms, and reports.
Perform assigned duties in areas such as unit, safety, disciplinary, special management area, and intake.
Promote positive social skills by modeling appropriate behaviors and intervening when inappropriate behaviors are observed.
Provide staff with regular feedback on social skills procedures and intervention techniques.
Maintain accountability of staff, inmates, and property, and adhere to safety practices.
