About The Position

Northrop Grumman Defense Systems is seeking a Principal or Sr. Principal Mechanical Engineer to join their team of qualified, diverse individuals. This role will support the Strategic Deterrent Systems (SDS) Division on the Launch Systems Infrastructure team. This position is to execute the Engineering and Manufacturing Development phase of the Sentinel Ground Based Strategic Deterrent (GBSD) program. This position will be located on campus in Roy, UT and may require on-site support at product manufacturing and integration sites. The qualified candidate will work within an Integrated Product Team (IPT) environment, interfacing with IPT leadership, suppliers, customers, and other technical disciplines to engineer design solutions to challenging problems through the development of Product Definition Packages (PDP). This position may be filled at a higher level based on qualifications below.

Requirements

  • Requires a bachelor’s degree in a Science, Technology, Engineering or Mathematics (STEM) discipline from an accredited university with 5 years of related experience; or a master’s degree with 3 years of related experience (Sr. Principal level requires 8 years with a bachelor's; or 6 years with a master's)
  • Must be a US Citizen with an active U.S. Government Secret Security Clearance, at time of application, current and within scope, with an investigation date within the last 6 years
  • Must have the ability to obtain and maintain Special Access Program (SAP) approval within a reasonable period of time, as determined by the company to meet its business needs
  • Requires a minimum 5 years of experience with CAD modeling
  • Requires experience with design/fabrication techniques for structural details, assemblies, and/or installations

Nice To Haves

  • Active U.S. Government SAP access for NGDS SDS programs
  • Master of Science in Mechanical or Aerospace Engineering
  • Knowledge of GD&T, materials selection, and manufacturing processes
  • Proficient written and verbal communication skills when conveying technical content

  • Experience in creating a Product Definition Package (PDP) or PDP like products
  • Experience with the ASME Y14.X suite of engineering drawing standards
  • Ability to work closely with multiple functional organizations (Engineering, Manufacturing, Purchasing, Field Operations, etc.)
  • Experience with Siemens NX and Teamcenter CPLM (Common Product Lifecycle Management) tools
  • Experience with requirements management and model-based systems engineering (MBSE) principles
  • Proficiency in DOORS, CAMEO, Jira and Confluence

Responsibilities

  • Create and implement deployable mechanical mechanisms that are verified through test/analysis
  • Develop CAD models visualizing various design solutions
  • Deliver required PDPs on time to meet program objectives
  • Support all phases of the systems lifecycle including design, drawings, fabrication, test, installation, operation and maintenance
  • Identify gaps within a design and/or requirements and provide a resolution that is cost effective, innovative, and has minimal impact to others.
  • Ensure the developed PDPs meet the design requirements from the various element/configured item specifications.
  • Preparation and presentation of reports, briefings, design documents (drawings and specifications) and interface with customers.
