The Ministry of Public Safety and Emergency Services has significant oversight and involvement in public security and emergency services through its various divisions and operations. The department is responsible for the administration of law enforcement, correctional services, policing and police oversight and public safety. The Ministry supports crime prevention and restorative justice programs, as well as programs and services to support victims of crime, including those affected by domestic violence and human trafficking. The Ministry also coordinates large scale emergency and disaster prevention, mitigation, preparedness, response and recovery programs and initiatives. Are you interested in applying your strong analytical and administrative skills in a fast-paced correctional environment?Reporting to the Sentence Administration Supervisor or Chief Sentence Administrator, this position is responsible for the administration of orders made by the court, calculation of sentences, the appearance of inmates in court as ordered and to ensure that the detention of the accused is lawful. This is accomplished by comprehending and correctly interpreting often complex legal documents and other information received from courts, police and judicial stakeholders. You must maintain a high level of knowledge to incorporate the many policy and legal rules associated with calculating sentences and must accumulate information from the JOIN (Justice on-line Information Network) system and CPIC (Canadian Police Information Centre) system to determine detention and release eligibility. Together with information gathered from legal documents as well as these systems and in conjunction with a high level of working knowledge, you must administer dispositions to carry out the intention of the court. In addition to the above outlined duties, the successful candidate will be responsible for: •Maintaining offender warrant files •Comprehending and correctly interpreting legal documents •Preparing, managing, and updating inmate legal files •Complex sentence calculations, including Conditional Sentence Orders •Interpreting complex legal documents and dispositions prepared by the court to ensure lawful detention or release of an accused. •Liaising with Sheriffs and Court stakeholders to coordinate the transportation of inmates to their court dates. •Assisting internal and external stakeholders while applying the Freedom of Information and Protection (FOIP) Act •Data entry within ORCA •General administrative responsibilities
