About The Position

The Sentence Administrator reports to the Manager of Sentence Administration and is responsible for documenting all admissions, releases, court appearances, transfers to other provincial and federal facilities, and fines within the Correctional Facility. The Sentence Administrator also inputs and maintains information relating to individuals in custody in the Justice Enterprise Information Network (JEIN), including loss of remission, levels of misconduct, temporary absences, court orders, and forms. The incumbent interprets warrants and other court orders, and calculates sentences for each individual in custody, using practices outlined in policy and procedures and following orders as outlined in various court documents. The Sentence Administrator maintains regular communication with video court staff, Court Services, Admission & Discharge staff, Justice Centre and Sheriff Services staff and facility management to ensure all parties are aware of potentially high-risk situations; performs information searches and prepares reports as necessary.

Requirements

  • Completed Grade 12.
  • Five or more years of related experience in the criminal justice field.
  • Related experience in Corrections, Court Services, policing, or experience working in a law office.
  • Experience and competency in typing, word processing, and other standard computer applications.
  • Self-motivation, initiative, and organizational skills to effectively handle multiple tasks and high-volume workloads.
  • Well-developed interpersonal and communication skills.
  • Ability to work harmoniously as a member of a team.
  • Sound judgement and a solid respect and ability to work with highly confidential records and information.

Nice To Haves

  • Experience in accounting.
  • Experience in research and analysis.
  • Previous experience using JEIN.
