About The Position

Under the supervision of the Organizing Manager, the Senior Youth Organizing Associate has the responsibility for building a network of young activists and leaders (ages 16-35) for the organization. The Senior Youth Organizing Associate is responsible for developing young leaders, organizing youth to take action on issues of reproductive health and freedom, and developing and delivering youth-oriented programming and grassroots actions to encourage young people to vote. The Senior Youth Organizing Associate develops and executes the plan to further the programmatic goals of Planned Parenthood North Central States and the Planned Parenthood Minnesota, North Dakota, South Dakota Action Fund. Senior Youth Organizing Associates are advocates in implementing our mission of “advancing and protecting sexual and reproductive healthcare for all”. They may perform other related duties as assigned.

Requirements

  • Three years experience in a professional setting where the bulk of your role was issue or legislative advocacy, grassroots community organizing, and/or political campaigns.
  • Understanding of intersectional nature of social justice and equity interpersonally and systemically, including a commitment to fighting for racial justice and advocacy
  • Valid driver’s license and access to a reliable, insured vehicle.

Responsibilities

  • Organize and develop young activists and leaders, with the goal of engaging, activating and training youth activists
  • Implement youth outreach, organizing, and voter engagement plans
  • Develop and execute advocacy and electoral strategies and programming for youth
  • Develop relationships with volunteers, community leaders and partner organizations
  • Recruit and grow youth volunteer capacity on college campuses
  • Ensure organizing, base building, advocacy, and electoral goals are met
  • Build a program that centers equity, racial justice, and intersectionality
  • Ensure data and reporting requirements are met
  • Identify and train new youth supporters and volunteers
  • Develop new and grow existing youth organizing chapters on college campuses
  • Work with Teen Councils, education and advocacy program participants, and college students to develop their leadership and engagement with advocacy and electoral campaigns
  • Foster leadership opportunities for youth that create opportunities for responsibility, skill development, and ownership of work
  • Co-create goals and tactics with youth leaders aimed at engaging youth to take action
  • Ensure youth leaders reach their advocacy and electoral goals
  • Engage young people in the legislative session, including youth lobby day.
  • Assist in creation and development of grassroots, youth-oriented campaign plans that support PPNCS and PPMNSAF’s programmatic goals.
  • Engage youth in both in-person and virtual grassroots organizing activities, including but not limited to 1:1 meetings, phone banking, canvassing, events, and online advocacy.
  • Engage local colleges and educate campus leaders around the issues of reproductive freedom
  • Engage youth volunteers and supporters in advocacy and electoral initiatives. This may include: Issue education, Legislative engagement, Candidate education, Voter engagement and turnout
  • Accurately record data to track your work and meet reporting requirements.
  • Create and participate in opportunities to expand our reach, meet new potential youth supporters, and generate new youth leaders
  • Serve as a representative of Planned Parenthood organizations at youth table meetings
  • Create opportunities for youth activists and supporters to take action in support of reproductive health and freedom
  • Create events and activities that excite supporters and inspire civic and electoral participation
