WIRED seeks an experienced reporter to cover the future of work, which encompasses the impact of artificial intelligence, the evolution of labor, and more. In this role, you’ll be responsible for balancing breaking news with long-form features. Our priority is ambitious, impactful work. That can take many forms: a major scoop, a deeply reported investigation, timely analysis, or a special project. We’re less interested in earnings reports than we are in the people most responsible for—and most affected by—the tech industry’s outsized influence. In the context of the future of work, that can range anywhere from the jobs most (and least) affected by AI to the impact of data centers on local communities. Investigations can come in all shapes and sizes, from deeply reported long reads to quick FOIA wins. You should have a proven ability to deliver scoops, exclusives, and stories that can’t be found anywhere else. We’re interested in hard news and the ability to put new information into a broader context. You’ll also be expected to contribute to WIRED in other ways, including collaboration with journalists on other desks. You should also be prepared to engage in a wide range of storytelling formats, such as social, podcasts, video series, and live events. This senior writer will report to WIRED’s director, business and industry, and will be part of a growing and increasingly global newsroom of smart, kind, collaborative, and well-informed colleagues who are always brimming with ideas and eager to help each other out. This is a guild position.
